Our plans for the coming week include learning how the Earth/Sun relationship
causes seasons and creates temperature zones, and then also learning some
information about different thematic maps. We will have a formative
assessment/test over the Geography Skills we have learned so far this year on
Friday, 10/16 (ODD), and Monday, 10/19 (EVEN). Students will have a study
guide sheet to help them go through their Geo-Journal to know what to focus on as they study for
this assessment.

Science Mrs.Simpson
Dorisa.Simpson@indianola.k12.ia.us

In Science, students have been working hard at a variety of measurements this week.
They finished up finding volume with the graduated cylinders packet, completed
measuring mass on their TBB measurements, measured length using the metric side of
a ruler and read both the Celsius and Fahrenheit sides of thermometers to determine
temperature. Students also completed a Read Around The Room graduated cylinder
practice activity. To conclude the week, students took a short quiz over graduated
cylinders. They were asked to calculate the count by number and find the volume
shown.

We did 2nd Step lessons in math this week. Topics we covered with the 2 nd Step

solution in regards to bullying rather than being part of the problem. We also
covered Emotion Management with a focus on the Brain and Body. We had some
good discussion!

with Whole Numbers and Decimals. Students worked on reading and writing
both Large and Small (decimal) Numbers and reviewed adding and subtracting

get as much math done as I intended.
We did not take the Place Value quiz. It will be on Monday (October 12) and Tuesday
(October 13) of next week. We will also continue reviewing adding and subtracting
decimals and begin work with Multiplying by Powers of 10.

In Class:
This week students have started their own still life drawing and putting
their practice to use! They are in the outlining stage and will begin
shading next week. Ask your child about techniques they have learned to
help them draw objects accurately (using the viewfinder, pencil trick to get
angles, other accuracy checks). Learning how to observe closely will

affect how they view the world around themin addition to being able to
draw realistically!
