Conclusion
In the first part four book we have considered the
hypothesis of the existence of the Slavonic runic writings. This
hypothesis corresponds to many aspects of material and cultural
life of the Dark Ages in Europe.
The runic written writings was disseminating all over Europe
by degrees. The European nations adapted the runic alphabet to
their tongues. It is possible that the Slavs were included in the
process. The Slavonic inscriptions ascribed by some researchers
to runic ones are the part oi the European runic tradition, and
they inform us of belonging different things to an owner. In the
Dark Ages the Slavs also regarded their written writings as
some part of mysteries, and this is quite in keeping with the
European sacred tradition. We suppose some of the Slavonic
runic relics have come into existence by adapting Scandinavian
and Germanic runes. Thus, for instance the Mickorgean stones
combine within themselves runic memorials and the Slavonic
sacred sculpture.
Theoretically, it is quite possible the Slavs had got a written
writings before taking them Cyrillic or Roman alphabet
"officially".
All the Slavonic runic relics, we are examining us in the
second part of the hook, is subdivided into two large groups.
The first group is found in the territory of the Western Slavs'
settlement. The inscriptions of these relics are written by the

same runic signs. They have been named by us "vendish runes"

on probation. According to the common opinion, for the first
time, "the vendish runes" have been presented in books of M.T.
Arnkel (1691) and Kluver (1728). These runes are similar the
Danish Futhark but they are modified slightly (it was probably
done to adapt these signs to Slavonic tongues). The relics of the
first group are as follows:
the first (published by A. Mash) and the second (presented
by Y. Pototsky) collections of "the prilvetish statuettes";
the collections of stones found out near Noy-Shtrelitz and
published by von Haguenov;
some Polish relics (the medal from Vapno, the
Mickorgcan
stones and "the figurine of Junckovich");
the Czech relics are as "the dragueltchish urn" and may
be the stones from Scalsk.
The authenticity of overwhelming maionty enumerated
things was often called in question. According to some critics,
all the relics of the first group "either stand all together or fall all
together", therefore the proof of the authenticity of one thing
from these collections may give an opportunity to establish the
authenticity of the rest of the things (and also the authenticity of
all "the vendish runes"); and in turn, any false thing of the first
group may enlarge doubts of the authenticity of all the rest.
It is doubtful whether the falsity of the relics from the first
group might be able to be proved by only analysing the system
of "the vendish runes". At least, the works of some authors who
are in the mood critically do not contain sufficient arguments to
admit the falsity of "the vendish runes", and the only possible
way to reveal is to examine the above things made by
unprejudiced experts by means of modern methods (it should be
noted that we have no facts of the examination of the first
group's relics made the XX century's beginning later).

The second group of the relics includes some objects covered

with undecipherable inscriptions. Some authors consider that
these inscriptions belong to the runic ones as they have got a
little likeness.
The relics of the second group are dispersed all over the
territory of the Slavs' settlement in Czechia, Russia, the
Ukraine, Byelorussia and Bulgaria. Generally the inscriptions are
short here, and they contain both signs similar to the runes and
these one which are not quite possible to identify.
TJie third part of the book is devoted to the interpretation of
the second group's relics. It may be that the inscriptions of these
relics have nothing to do with phonetic letters and are signs of
illustrative letters or logographs, brands of owners or figures.
Thus it may be said that the Slavs used these signs of all the
above-named categories rather widely. So the majority of the
unidentified inscriptions of the Slavs are decreased considerably.
Also it is necessary to take into consideration a little probability
of adapting runes to those Slavs who lived near to the peoples
possessing the runic writings. The probability of the paiallel
existence of the Slavonic runes which came from the same root
as well as the West European runes is utterly little. In this
connection it seems to us to reckon the relics of the second group
among the Slavonic runes untimely.
