INTRODUCTION
2005 was the worst year in the 20th
century with hundred of billion of
pounds of losses and more than half
a million of deaths. Most devastating
event is Sumatra earthquake and
hurricane Katrina.

Sumatra Earthquake

On boxing day 2004, an earthquake


ruptured on the oceanic crust of Indian
ocean with a magnitude of 9.8 on the
Richter scale.
It caused an tsunami leading to 500,000
deaths in 14 countries.
It is the 3rd largest earthquake ever
recorded in the seismograph and the
longest duration of 10 mins.

Hurricane Katrina
it killed around 3500 people
in the US with total damage
cost of 108 billion USD.
It had a wind speed of 152
mph and lowest pressure of
27 HG.

CONCLUSION
If we are more alert and aware about natural
disasters we can reduce the impact caused by
them. So dont be in the comfort zone thinking
that you're safe. Natural disasters can strike
anywhere.
