Sport Pedagogy Lesson Plan Template (Elementary and Middle School)
Background Information
Teacher: Sheldon Simas

Date: Sept 21, 2015

School: Cleveland Elementary

Grade Level: 3rd Grade

Lesson Focus: This week will be the introductory

phase for ultimate-frisbee. On the first day of the
week we will be introducing the backhand throw
along with strategies on receiving the frisbee.

# Of students: 20 Students

Equipment and Facilities: For this lesson its crucial

to utilize a large amount of space. The grass space is
good enough and/or black top space. Equipments
used for the lesson will be a minimum of 10 frisbees
and 20 cones.

Safety Considerations: The safety considerations falls

under the consideration for space. This will be the
introductory week with frisbee, so the third graders
will be more pruned to throw the frisbees with no
sense of control and/or direction. Having large
amounts of space away from the other groups will
prevent the chance of anyone getting hit by a frisbee.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: When students are talking
I will simply raise my hand to receive the students
attentions. The students will only receive one
warning, if and only if any student shows any
disrespect to the teachers and fellow classmates,
without hesitation they will be asked to sit out.
Determining the consequence for such behavior will
depend on how crucial the situation is.

Previously Learned Skills: The main lesson core

emphasizes the skills that are taught from the first part
of the lesson. Students will need to know the cues of
the skill in order to proceed into the main activity
portion of the lesson.

Teaching Strategy: The main strategies used are

Whole-Part-Whole and Active Learning.
(III)

Student
Objectives:

Academic Language: Students will be introduced to

the understanding of the phrase, cues of the skill.
From there the students will be able to perform
different sets of skills just based of the COTS. The
main goal is for the students to identify all the
different components that go into a skill. (I, II, IV)

Psychomotor (P): Students will perform the cues of the skill with the back-hand throw.
They will perform a series of passes and catches to start off. Once the students are able to
perform the cues of the skill then they are capable to move forward. The only difference
for the next portion of the lesson is the increase in distance between partners. The
students will be able to challenge themselves with accuracy by taking a step back after
every successful pass and catch. (I, II, III, V)
Cognitive (C): Before we begin the activity the students will go through a quick check for
understanding. After the cues of the skill have been provided and demonstrated to the
students, they will be asked to repeat what the cues of the skill were. (I, II, V)
H-R Fitness (H): The beginning of every lesson will include some sort of small activity for
the students to get their heart up. This lesson will include the game called FourCorners. This game is essentially another form of a tag game. This way the students
will be having fun and constantly moving.

Instant Activity:
minutes The instant activity for the lesson will be
Four-Corners. This is another form of a
tag game. There will be 2-3 students in
the middle who are it. They are only
allowed to tag someone if that particular
individual is off of an corner. The only
way for students to move is by corner to
corner.
2-3
Transition:
minutes After the instant activity the students will
be given a short water break before the
beginning of the lesson content. They
will meet back where the teacher is for
further instruction.

Set Induction:
minutes The teacher will briefly explain to the
students what the week will be focussing
on, for this case it is ultimate frisbee. The
teacher will set out the agenda for the
period, telling the student that they will
first be introduced to the COTS and from
there go into the activity. Its better to
provide the students with a little insight
for what will be coming up in the future
for lesson focus so that they will be a little
prepared to know what to expect.
Purpose:
Explain to the students that reason as to
why we learn step by step is all because
they will be assessed towards the end of
the content. For this specific content the
students will learn all the skills and
eventually play ultimate frisbee.

Start/Stop Signals:
The main technique
used will be the
raising of the hand.
The teacher will
simply raise their
hand saying raise
your hand if you can
hear me. Basically
repeat that until all
student cooperate. If
all else fails then the
teacher will have to
raise their voice to
promote authority
over the students.
Grouping Strategies:
The teacher will
allow free-choice for
partners. The
students will be given
no more then 30
seconds to find a
partner or they will
be partnered by the
teacher.

Transition :

The students will be given a time limit to
find their partners. Once the students have
found their partners and where they are
stationed then they will be given a frisbee
(one per group).

Kicking foot forward

Common Errors Task 1:
1. Proper body position for
performing the skill.
2. Students not flicking the
wrist.

Demonstration Plan:
The teacher will mainly utilize the teacher
demonstration. As the teacher is
explaining how to perform the skill, they
will use a frisbee as a visual aid for the
students. As the teacher is explaining the
skill, they are also performing the skill in
slow motion.
Questions to Check Understanding
What is the proper grip for the back-hand
throw?
After the extension of the arm occurs,
what is the final cue?

up with the same partners and practicing

that the students will each take a step back

Common Errors Task 2:
1. In-proper ways to catch the
frisbee.
2. Students may test their limits

Demonstration Plan:
The students wont need any
demonstration for this specific activity for
they have participated in task 1.
However, if necessary the teacher will
briefly review the COTS.
Questions to Check Understanding
If there are any students who are not
focussed while the teacher is providing
them with instruction, then the teacher
will simply call on that specific student to
ask them to simply repeat what the
instructions were. If he or she fail to
answer the question it only shows that
they were paying attention.
Adaptations :
If any of the students were struggling
from task 1 then the teacher will have
those groups start their first pass a little
closer to each other. That way the
students still receive the same scenario as
do every other student.
