Abstract. In the article the author investigates the process of maintaining the stability of world
banking system in a context of problems associated with the development of national banking sector. He
analyzes the factors and estimates their influence on steady and balanced development of bank system. The
special attention is given to the prospects of reforming the system of bank regulation and supervision,
stipulation of Basel on bank supervision. The author also comes out with some assumptions in regards to the
current development of the Russian banking sector and analyzes the measures taken to achieve financial
stability.
