Using Articles with One and Two Nouns

When describing two separate nouns, place a or an before each. But when
using words that describe a single noun, only place a or an before the first one.
Examples:
Patrick painted a red and a green sign.
There is an a before both red and green. This means that there are two
signs, one of each color.
Tiffany built a brick and wood doghouse.

doghouse and it is made with both brick and wood.
