Mr. Hayess 9-12 Classroom Policies.

Dear Guardians and Students,
This letter of Classroom rules is to inform you and your child of my expectations. The
core of my instruction is to remain a fun and effective learning environment. Most of the lessons
will be taught in a direct manner, since introductory level language classes tend to be that way.
However, we will resort to group exercises and projects whenever we can so that students gain a
good sense of interaction.
Expectations:
1. There is only one rule in my classroom, dont do anything that can harm another student.
This goes for any and all things.
Consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. I will ask the disrupting student to move to another part of the classroom.
3. The student will be required to stay after class (to try and solve the problem).
4. If it happens continuously he or she will be sent to the office for the class period and will
be responsible for making up any work.
5. A call home to the parents.
Immediate office visit
If a student makes any kind of threat, both verbal and nonverbal, to another student they
will be sent to the office to await further measures of punishment.
Electronics Policy:
1. Absolutely no cell phones or any other electronic devices unless the occasion permits.
2. Students who are caught using an electronics device will first it taken away for the rest of
the day.
3. If it happens again the parent will be required to pick it up.
Attendance Policy
As it states in the handbook attendance is required and will be that way in my classroom.
If a student will be absent he or she should notify me in advance.
If I cannot be notified in time the student must bring me a note upon their return.
If a student will be gone for a vacation or any other long period of time I would like to
know ahead of time so that I can compile the proper work for the student. This work will
be due 4 days after he or she returns.
If the student is gone for illness or other common occurrences he or she will be required
to turn the work in one day after arriving back in class. More time will be permitted if the
assignment calls for it.
Tardies
Each 3rd tardy will count as an absence. Each unexcused absence will take away 5% of
their participation points for the quarter.
Late Work Policy
Students will be allowed to turn in late work.

Aaron Hayes 2

If the assignment is one day late it will be deducted 5% from the score received.
Every day after the first day the assignment will be deducted an additional 15% from the
score received.

Positive Reinforcement
During the course of my classes I will strive to build off the good things that the students
do rather than the negative.
In order to do this the students must know that this classroom must remain a judgmental
free zone so that all students can gain positive experiences.
Extra Credit
There will be a few extra credit opportunities given throughout the school year.
These opportunities will not be announced until a week in advance. That way the students
dont solely rely on the extra credit points to get them by.
Extra credit will not be allowed for students who have missing work unless consent is
given by myself.
Extra credit is not for students who do not decide to do some of their work but rather for
students who give an honest effort to every assignment but simply need a few more
points to raise their grade.
Every extra credit assignment will be directly related to the content area and will take
place after school hours.
Food
There will be absolutely no food in my classroom other than gum.
The students may bring drinks but it must be one that has a resalable lid.
Routine/Incentives
Each semester will be divided up into 4 units.
Each unit should take a certain amount of time and if there is time between units we will
be having a Spanish movie day, or movie days, and food will be allowed.
This reward will also go off the students behavior over the units.
The students will be expected, daily, to remain in their seats anytime during the class
period unless there is collaboration happening which I always encourage.
Every day the students will be required to read the board for a warm up exercise and get
started immediately so that no time gets wasted.
As you have read these rules and expectations I hope you acknowledge that I am a very
lenient person. As your teacher I will strive to make this class as fun and significant as possible.
By signing below, I can assume that you have read everything in detail and that you will strive to
learn, as my favorite expectation of students is that they try. If you do everything in your power
to do so I will do everything in my power to teach you the lessons that will get you ahead. I have
also included my e-mail in case there is anything you have a question with.
