Fulton park, forth

Situated on the east bank of the Mersey River, 4km upstream from the Forth Fire
Station. This the Mersey Districts campsite. Facilities include a small hall and
kitchen, bunkhouse sleeping 64, outdoor kitchen and large shower/toilet block
capable of handling 200 campers. Telephone on site, excellent tent sites close to
facilities.

Scout island, Corra Linn


This island in the North Esk River, 15 minutes South of Launceston, is accessed
by suspension pedestrian bridge and 4WD river ford. The island has a toilet block
and storm hut, and is suited to tent camping of any numbers. Abseiling and
canoeing sites near island. Firewood available but not spars.

Carnacoo Camp, Paper beach


25 minutes north of Launceston, set in bush surroundings with frontage to the
Tamar River. Facilities include large hall, adjacent dining room with large kitchen,
main bunkhouse to sleep 32, divided 14:16, small bunkhouse with 8 bunks
divided 4:4. Large shower/toilet block capable of meeting needs of 100 plus.
Suitable for all sections and training courses.

Paton park, north Motton


The Leven Districts campsite, consists of over 140 hectares of bushland near
North Motton which is south of Ulverstone, it is partly bounded by the Leven
River. It is reached by turning west onto Allison Road just north of the 80klmph
speed limit sign before North Motton. There is a large hall with an attached
bunkroom sleeping 32, a kitchen with equipment for up to 64 persons and male
and female toilets and showers in the same building. Adjoining is a bunkhouse
with three separate rooms each with 8 bunks plus additional ablutions. There is
also an outdoor barbecue area and an activity room.
Up the road from the Scout Lodge (a few minutes walk) is a large cleared
camping area with excellent flat tent sites, walking tracks (4.5km), a physical
challenge course and an abseiling tower & climbing wall.

Douglas-Apsley NP
2 hrs from Launceston
At the Apsley Waterhole end of the park there is a carpark and signposted walk
to the waterhole and lookout. A small information booth near the waterhole gives
further information about the local area. Nearby there is a composting toilet.
Water can be obtained from the Apsley River. Other than a rough carpark, the
northern end of the park has no facilities as yet.

There is a small bush camping area near the Apsley Waterhole, ten minutes walk
from the carpark off Rosedale Road. For those walking the Leeaberra Track there
are remote bush campsites near Heritage Falls and Tevelein Falls, both on the
Douglas River. There is no charge for camping.
Mt William NP
A day-shelter with gas barbecues is found near campground No. 4 at Stumpys
Bay Day Use Area in the north of the park. Picnic tables, fire places and pit toilets
are provided near most of the other campgrounds. Several sheltered camping
areas have been developed around Stumpys Bay in the north of the park. There
is also a camp site at the far northern end of the park, just before Musselroe Bay

Deviot Girl guides nindethana camphouse


The Nindethana Camp site is situated at 285 Deviot Road, West Tamar
approximately 30 km from Launceston adjacent to the Tamar River. It is a sunny,
tranquil bush setting with plenty to do and see both onsite and off.
The camp house offers cosy bunkrooms, with 40 bunks in all. The modern kitchen
is fully equipped for self catering. The separate dining room, with wood heater,
can seat up to 40 and the adjacent Wilkins Room is a bright sunny room suitable
for a range of indoor activities. The bathroom offers modern amenities with
facilities for the disabled. A wide sunny veranda overlooks the river, ideal for
outdoor activities. Outdoor areas are cleared with level areas for campers, with
water, and outdoor amenities and cooking fire bases provided. The lodge, a
separate hut with rustic facilities is available for booking. A 4sq.m free standing
tree house is available for the camper looking for adventure. - pre bookings a
must.
An outdoor adventure trail set among the trees, along with indoor activity ideas
and equipment are available. A permanent orienteering course is set amongst
the bush, with trails for the experienced and the inexperienced.
Off site activities include the nature trail along the Supply River which continues
to the historic Supply River Flour Mill ruins and the surrounding reserve. Further
along the river to Paper Beach is a coastal walk of about 2.5 km.

Ben Lomond
There is a small camping area one kilometre inside the park boundary and
several kilometres below the summit. There are 6 un-powered sites that are
suitable for tents or campervans, flush toilet, drinking water and a lookout. A
shelter shed provides relief from rain.
There are no other camping facilities in the national park. Remote bush camping
is permitted anywhere in the park but not within 500 metres of any road. Fuel
stoves should be used by campers.

The Valley Campus is a 16.5 hectare property in the Fingal Valley that is Scotch
Oakburns dedicated Education Outdoors and Environmental Centre for students
from Early Learning though to TCE.

Mt Cameron Field centre


The Field Study Centre is located in the Mt. Cameron Range, 145 kms (2.25hours)
from Launceston.
Activities: Kayaking, Bushwalking, Obstacle Course, Abseiling, Camping & Flying

Two student bunk rooms, accommodating 16 and 14 students respectively. One
staff bunk room, accommodating 4 staff. Separate male and female bathrooms
with showers, hand basins and toilets. Gas hot water system. Two 30,000 litre
water tanks. Electric pressure pump. Electricity from 240 volt diesel generator.
Large main room suitable for dining, games and group activities. Film screen,
tables and chairs, sink. Games cupboard. Wood heater. Kitchen containing 4
burner gas cooktop and stove, large BBQ plate, cutlery, plates, cups, fridge, pots,
pans, cooking utensils. Telephone in Staff Room. DVD player. Animal posters and
historical photo display. Camping area at rear of main building. Campfire area.

Meander Falls Area Huntsman hideaway


2 storey hut. Fire inside. Firemans poles at each end. There is a good supply of
large wood for the wood heater, but you will need to bring your own kindling,
small wood and paper. There is a good outdoor shelter and table with benches
(seats about 12). There is a great little BBQ area with shelter. There are not really
many options for tent sites, although there are some average sites for small (2
person) tents.
There are plenty of walks that you could do from here. Meander Falls being the
obvious one, but also Dixons track up onto the plateau, Split Rock Falls, and if
you're more experienced and feeling adventurous Bastion Bluff, Bastion
Cascades/Stone hut circuit, with various extra adventures thrown in. From quite
close by you can also do Mother Cummings Peak up the South side.

Central lakes- Lady lake Higgs track


Higgs Track is a fairly steep but manageable 2 hour climb up from Western Creek
to the top of the Great Western Tiers, where on a fine day, there are wonderful
views along the escarpment. From the top of the track it is a short walk to Lady
Lake Mountain Hut and on to the lake itself, which is like another world compared
to the forest you have just climbed through. The complete quiet and
extraordinary landscape is very atmospheric.

BP Memorial Scout Lodge, Cradle Mountain.


This property is controlled by the Mersey District. A permission to camp form is
required from all Scout Groups.
The BP Memorial Scout Lodge is situated within the Cradle Mountain Lake St
Claire National Park and a Tasmanian Parks Pass is required for entry into the
Park.
The Lodge is reached by walking for approximately 45 minutes from the "walker
registration point" at the Ronny Creek car park.
The Lodge accommodates a maximum of 14 people. It has fixed bunks for 12
people and by rearranging the seating on the western wall a further 2 people are
able to sleep comfortably.
The Lodge is well insulated and has double glazed windows; there is a gas heater
in the main room and solar lighting throughout the hut.
There is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, crockery and cutlery. Running
water is on tap to the kitchen, washroom and to a flushing toilet which is on a
septic system. Outside there is a 6 burner BBQ which can double as an oven
along with a water cooled refrigerator.
There is a roster of duty hut wardens throughout the year, they ensure
everything is OK at the hut.
Please note: This facility is above the snowline; it is recommended that only
experienced groups should attempt to arrive after dark during the May to
October period as the walking tracks can be very icy underfoot and weather
conditions can be extreme.
