Women in Music: Middle Ages

Do you know anything about women in music? Can you recall the
name of a female composer? Why do you think you have heard about
Beethoven, but you havent heard about Clara Schumann?
In most music history books, the history is based primarily on men.
Another thing to remember is that women historically havent had
access to musical education like men have had. For example, women
whom have had talent and education have had to abandon their
musical careers to care for a family and household.
During the Middle Ages there were a lot of women composers and
singers. For example in the field of religious music, women dedicated
their lives to the composition just like men. However, in most history
books, on the works of male monks are recalled. For example
Hildegard von Bingen, a nun, was a famous female composer. She
composed religious dramas.
Throughout secular music we can find female composers. For
example there is a mysterious musical figure, the Countess Beatrice
de Da. She was a famous trobaritz (female troubadour). She
composed aloto f songs, poems, and instrumental compositions.
There is repertoire supposedly written by women, it is called Cantigas
de Amigo, is literally a "song about a boyfriend", is a genre of
medieval erotic lyric poetry, apparently rooted in a song tradition
native to the northwest quadrant of the Iberian Peninsula.
