Sample: Chi-Square
A. Both variables used had a nominal measure for the Chi-Square analysis.
B. The descriptive statistics from the Chi-Square analysis are stated in Table 1.

C. The majority of the participants (72.7%) were not social workers, but most participants
(91.4%) agreed that working with healthcare members outside of their own profession
would make them more effective at conducting older adult assessments. Of all the
respondents, (N=922), only 82 felt that an interprofessional team visit increased their
effectiveness.

D. The sample can be representative of undergraduates in the social work, medical, nursing,
physical therapy, physician assistant and occupational therapy programs, who attend
Wayne State University.
E. This sample cannot be generalizable to all students at Wayne State University.
2. Bivariate Analysis: Chi-Square
A. The research question for this is: Is there a relationship between being a social worker or
not and how effective they feel, while working on healthcare teams outside of their field?
The null hypothesis is: There is not a relationship between being a social worker or not
and how effective they feel, while working on healthcare teams outside of their field.
The alternative hypothesis is: There is not a relationship between being a social worker
or not and how effective they feel, while working on healthcare teams outside of their
field
B. In order to answer each research question, a crosstabs was run to determine the ChiSquared statistics.
C. Chi-Square was performed to analyze the relationship between whether or not you are a
social worker or not and how effective they felt working with a healthcare student outside
their own profession. There was a relationship between the two variables, x2 (3,
N=954)=16.754, p<.001.
D. Therefore, we will reject the null hypothesis because there is a significant relationship
between being a social worker or not and whether or not you feel more effective working
with healthcare students outside your own profession.
3. Implications
These findings represent the significance between social workers and those who feel
more effective working within a healthcare team outside of their field. The data shows
that majority of respondents feel they would gain practical skills from other disciplines.
This research could be developed further to better understand interdisciplinary teams in
healthcare and the value social workers can bring.
Further research would have to be conducted to explore the impact of other factors on the
effectiveness of the team such as: the amount of training, composition of the healthcare
team members, and having a social worker on each team.

1. Sample: Correlation
A. Both variables used in this Correlation are measured at the interval level.
B. Descriptives statistics for the Pearson r analysis can be seen in Table 2.

C. The total sample for the Pearson r is (n=954). The variables were treated as interval for this
table. The team compositions comprised 965 students. There were only 954 who responded
to the possibility to welcoming the opportunity to work in small groups with other healthcare
professionals outside their field.
D. The sample can be representative of undergraduates in the social work, medical, nursing,
physical therapy, physician assistant and occupational therapy programs, who attend Wayne
State University.
E. This sample cannot be generalizable to all students at Wayne State University.
2. Bivariate Analysis: Pearson r
A. The research question for this analysis is: Is there a correlation between feeling more
effective in a healthcare team and welcoming the opportunity to work in smaller groups with
healthcare members outside your own profession in reference to older adult care.

The null hypothesis is: There is not a correlation between feeling more effective in a
healthcare team and welcoming the opportunity to work in smaller groups with healthcare
members outside your own profession in reference to older adult care.
The alternative hypothesis is: There is a correlation between feeling more effective in a
healthcare team and welcoming the opportunity to work in smaller groups with healthcare
members outside your own profession in reference to older adult care.
B. In order to answer these questions, a correlation test was run.
C. The two-tailed correlation was performed to see the strength of the correlation between the
two variables, feeling more effective in a healthcare team and welcoming the opportunity to
work in small groups outside your own profession. There was a significance between the
two variables, r=.578, n=954, p=.000.
D. Therefore, because there was significance in the relationship between the variables, we will
reject the null hypothesis. Overall, there is a strong positive correlation between feeling
more effective in a healthcare team for older adults and welcoming the opportunity to work
is smaller groups outside your profession.
3. Implications:
These findings are impactful when examining the relationship between how effective a
person feels when working on a healthcare team for older adults and whether they would like
further opportunities to service older adults with other healthcare professionals that are not of
their same profession.
The analysis shows a strong positive correlation that could inform future research regarding
older adults health care providers and ways they can improve their assessment process.
This data has shown that there is a relationship between the two variables. It can encourage
additional studies that would examine the potential benefits of teamwork for healthcare
providers when caring for an older adult.

A. One variable was tested by the Chi-Square analysis at a nominal level. The other variables
were tested by the ANOVA analysis at the interval level.

E. The sample can be representative of undergraduates in the social work, medical, nursing,

F. This sample cannot be generalizable to all students at Wayne State University.
2. Bivariate Analysis: ANOVA
A. The research question for this analysis is: What is the association between the
effectiveness of a member of a healthcare team and being a social worker on the
healthcare team.
The null hypothesis is: There is not a relationship between the effectiveness of a member
of a healthcare team and a social worker on the healthcare team
The alternative hypothesis is: There is a relationship between the effectiveness of a member
of a healthcare team and a social worker on the healthcare team
B. The one-way between subjects ANOVA was conducted to compare the team composition
of a healthcare team, (IV), and if you feel more effective working with healthcare
professionals outside your profession (DV). There was significance in team composition
of a healthcare team (IV) and being more effective (DV) at the p<.05 level for the
composition of healthcare teams. [F(4,947)=2.81, p=.025. Therefore, we will reject the
null hypothesis because there was significance between how effective you feel on a
healthcare team and the composition of the teams.
C. Post hoc: Comparisons using the Bonferonni test indicate that none of the mean scores
were significant
3. Implications:
These findings show there is a significance in team composition but there is not
significance in how the teams are composed.
These seemingly contradictory findings warrant further investigation in to what
contributes to the effectiveness of interdisciplinary teams. The significance between

groups indicates that the composition of teams matters, which could potentially influence
the manner in which interdisciplinary teams are composed.
Future research could determine the significance of team compositions in order to increase
the effectiveness of healthcare teams when conducting assessments on older adults. The
combination of disciplines needs to be examined for the best results to be achieved.
