1. Identify: kami
Kami are spirits that are a part of nature. Unusual or beautiful trees, bodies of water, mountains
and other things were considered the home of a kami.
2.How do Shinto beliefs and practices show the Japanese respect for nature?
The shinto beliefs show that they deeply cared about nature. While most other religions have
gods that are prayed to, the shinto prayed to various natural plants and rocks. To pray as much to
simple things like trees and rivers as one would pray to a god shows that the shinto really
respected and cared for nature.
3.Write a poem that reflects Shinto value. (Try a haiku)
Nature, so lovely
spirits are in all places
pray to its beauty
