Scenario
Live Music Event
You work for a music event promoter. Your company has been asked to put on a new live UK
music event. In order to organise the event you will need to find out about the music industry in the
UK. You have been asked to research different record labels and find out about a current artist.
You will need to find out how current UK artists make recordings and promote their music. You will
also need to find out about the type of live music events that are going on in the UK. You will
organise a new live music event and publicise it.
You have been asked to produce the following items:

A series of factsheets about the music industry

An event planning portfolio

A printed advertisement to promote the event

You will be presenting your work to your employer. The language and presentation skills you
demonstrate should be appropriate for a business situation.

Tasks
Unit 51 P1:
Your task is to:
Find out about the music industry. How the music industry is structured in terms of record
labels. You will need to find out about the Big Three music labels: Sony, Universal Music
Group and Warner Music Group
Your evidence will be:

P1a - A presentation on the big three music labels

P1a - A presentation on the different types of record labels and the structure of a record
label

P1b - A letter outlining the process required to get a record made

P1c - A fact file about the live music events and event promoters

P1d A flow chart explaining how music is distributed together with an information leaflet
