FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Readers,
Welcome back to the 7th edition of Cambodia Golf Today, the #1 golf

What a year its been for Jordan Spieth as he cruised his way through
the season with two majors and almost had his hands on the holy grail

other than the great Tiger Woods himself. One of the greatest golfers of all time, Woods has certainly seen better days in the past few
years. However, his recent performance at the Wyndham Championship showed us that all is not lost and the real Tiger is still in there
somewhere.
And of course, the Angkor Amateur Open. This years tournament is
the most exciting yet as we witnessed history being made. Ly Hong

SIEM REAP GOLF FAM TRIP 2015

25th to 28th June
IAGTO Cambodia Chapter members jointly held the Siem Reap Golf FAM Trip on 25th to 28th
June 2015.

NEWS

The FAM Trip was a joint event hosted by PSD Travel, a DMC in Cambodia with two golf courses
namely Angkor Golf Resort and Phokeethra Country Club.
Home to the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Angkor
Wat, Siem Reap also boasts three world-class golf courses
and resorts. All the golf courses are conveniently located
within 30 minutes driving distance from the hotels. The
city encompasses a great variety of attractions; cultural
heritage site, sumptuous spa, vibrant nightlife and cultural
entertainments which will satisfy both golfers and nongolfers alike. Together with our partner, Phokeethra Country
Club and Angkor Golf Resort along with hotel partners,
Regency Angkor Hotel and Raffles Grand dngkor Hotel, we
showcased this fascinating destination to IAGTO members,
Candra Tanpatti of PSD Travel mentioned.
After a sumptuous welcome dinner hosted by PSD Travel,
the 19 IAGTO delegates were transferred to the Phokeethra
Country Club, designed by V-Golf, on the next morning
for the first round of the Siem Reap Golf FAM Tournament
utilising a System 36 Stableford format. Participants were
welcomed in style with a traditional Apsara show which left
all players with a large smile on their faces. The following
day the final round was held at the Sir Nick Faldo designed
course, Angkor Golf Resort, which won the prestigious
IAGTO Excellence awards earlier this year. Participants
were further pampered with a great lunch hosted by the
Raffles Grand dngkor Hotel at the Club House.
Siem Reap has fast become one of the must see destinations
in South East Asia which gives us a great opportunity to
deliver a unique product to the developing golf market. The
2015 Siem Reap Golf FAM Trip was a fantastic event for us
at Phokeethra Country Club to highlight our championship
course and provide valuable exposure of the golf in Siem
Reap. The enthusiasm I seen from the participants is a
testament that near future looks very promising for Siem

Reap as a golf destination. said Robert Turvey of Phokeethra

Country Club.
The Inaugural Siem Reap Golf FAM Trip was a great
success and a valuable exercise for Angkor Golf Resort
and all sponsors taking part. The FAM Trip gave us the
opportunity to showcase Siem Reap to a wider audience
and new partners yet to explore the offerings of Cambodia. I
look forward to working more closely with the participants
and fellow IAGTO members in the coming months and
years. David Baron of Angkor Golf Resort commented.
The trip concluded with a final prize presentation dinner
where Jamie Bao from United Golf Service Vietnam took
the top spot with a total combined stableford score of 75
points followed by Andy Cheng from CueGolf, Thailand
in 2nd place with 71 points and in 3rd place MadhavMisra
from Golf Tripz, India with 69 points.

ROBERT
For those of you who have not yet seen the new
face at Phokeethra Country Club, let us introduce
Robert Turvey of Brisbane, Australia who is the
new Golf Operation Manager of this incredible
golf course, since the beginning of this year.

Robert Turvey Brisbane

We sat down with Robert to find out more about him, his
experience and how The Kingdom of Wonder became his
next endeavor.

Robert

His golf journey begun in his hometown of Brisbane

where a young Robert started playing golf at the age of 5
and managed to reach single digit handicap when he was
only 12! After finishing high school, he pursued a bachelor
degree in Sports Management with a certificate in golf
management practices. His study programs also allowed
him to receive coaching and play in tournamentsas well
as meet the business educational requirements with a
PGA training.

After succeeded his university degree, Robert deferred his

decision to turn professional. Instead, he opted to join Club

a few years. He later returned to Australia to complete his
training. Robert specified that he had to do a bridging year
at a golf facility in Australia to meet the PGA requirements
that were not part of his university degree.

FEATURE

Afterwards, he spent about 10 years of his time in Indonesia

where he experienced leading dual roles as Director of
Golf and an academy head coach. To challenge himself
and enrich his professional skills, Robert decided to move
forward in taking a full management position. The job in
Phokeethra Country Club came up at the right time and
thats how he is now the Golf Operation Manager of the
18 holes challenging golf course.
Despite a completely new environment, Robert has quickly
adapt to the local culture and greatly took the lead of
Phokeethra Country Club. He feels grateful to be surrounded
by helpful Cambodians colleagues. In Cambodia, I might
just be lucky, but Ive noticed that my team here has been
really helpful. The people here are really friendly and easy
to get along with. I think that is the beauty of Cambodia,
as it is still a young tourist destination. A lot of the people
here in the countryside have a genuinely positive attitude
towards getting the job done. If you want to try and improve
something, they would jump on board to do it with you.
explained Robert.

Like many others, there was a point in his career that Robert
had a difficult choice to make. Whether he was going to
commit his life to playing professionally, teaching or to
move towards a management role.

I think in the back of my mind, I have always wanted

to be managing golf courses and be involved in that side
of the industry. I think thats what persuaded me to go
into a management direction. Ive seen many people out

Robert

Robert told us about how he enjoys managing golf courses

as it presents a lot of great challenges and the chance to see
the operations of a golf course in a different perspective to
the golfers.Being involved in all aspects of the operation
really give you an understanding of the detail that goes
on behind the scenes he said.
The quality of golf courses was a nice surprise when Robert
arrived; however, he pointed one thing out that we are in
mutual agreement about.
Before arriving in Cambodia, I never knew that there was
golf here and I think thats an issue we need to face. said
Robert. He further explained that getting the message out
to tourists before they arrive in Siem Reap will give them a
chance to allow enough time in their schedule for a game.
We asked Robert about his thought on what would help
improve golf in Cambodia and his answer is the development
of junior golf. Since there is no established junior program
here yet, he explained how starting a junior program
can cause a chain reaction that would help golf develop
nationally. Juniors are the key to developing a stable base
of golfers which will encourage Cambodia to nationalize
the handicapping system and develop more regional and
inter-club competition. The visibility that this creates for
golf will help spawn new social clubs and networks and
this is when you will see a growing number of people
interested in golf at a grass roots level Roberts thought
on the matter.

Talking about the course of Phokeethra Country Club, Robert

elaborates more on the story behind the course, the logo
design and their slogan Tee off in the 11th century, finish
your game in the 21st century. The theme of the course
is based on the 11th century Roluh Bridge that was found
when construction of the golf course began. The bridge

there who are playing a lot of professional golf and have

a good life travelling around on the tour. But moneywise,
its a struggle. You have to really be on your game to be
making money off the golf course. For me, I was always
lucky enough to find rewarding positions that I like to be
working in. So I tended to enjoy my work more than hitting
balls.he elaborated on his choice.

FEATURE

the course has been trying to keep in-line with the theme
of Siem Reap that is packed full with beautiful ancient
temples. This magnificent bridge really adds a plus to your
golf experience there.

Robert

In the past year and a half, there has been some significant
improvements on the quality of the whole golf experience
at Phokeethra Country Club. The work that has been done
brought the quality of the course back to high standards.
Nevertheless, maintaining excellent conditions is an ongoing
process that no golf course is exempt from.

Weve managed well to stay in control of the paspalum

grass in the fairways and our caddies do a great job in
helping us keep the course is great condition during low
season period. We have a few projects at the moment but
ultimately we would like to turn Phokeethraback into an
award winning golf course as we want this course to be
a memorable experience that brings people back. said
Robert, enthusiastically.
We all know that Phokeethra Country Club is no stranger
to the Asian Tour as it was the host of the Johnny Walker
Cambodian Open for four consecutive years and Robert
still thinks that it is a good idea to bring the tour back as
it would really help highlight Cambodia as a destination
for golf.
In the not too distant future, look out for Phokeethra Country
Club to start hosting some exciting new amateur events.
On top of the Monthly Friendly Golf Tournament every
first Sunday afternoon of the month- the main highlight
of this year will be the first Season Open event. Indeed,
Phokeethra Country Club will celebrate the Summer turning
to Winter with an exciting Fire & Ice theme Saturday
the 3rd of October. Keep posted for more information or

limited and many surprises are waiting for you.

I recall exchanging pleasantries with former President of

America; George Bush Sr. and Barbara whilst out walking in
the streets of St. Andrews. His enjoyment of the town came
from the fact that he could walk without his security detail.

Without question, there is no other golf venue on the

British open circuit that can replicate the history, tradition
and sheer awe of playing the Old course, and I cant think
of any other golf course in the world that provides such
a climatic finish to a major championship than the Road
Hole 17th and the amphitheatre of the 18th green neatly
set in foreground of the Royal & Ancient clubhouse and
the red exterior of Hamilton Hall.

This years Open provided all of the excitement and drama

that one comes to expect from the British Open. Spectators
witnessed two legends of the game taking their final bow
on the Swilcan bridge, five time Open Champion and St.
Andrewss favorite adopted son; Tom Watson and arguably
Britains best golfer; Sir Nick Faldo.

With the course having been built on true Links land and
within a mere chip and run of the town shops which carry
iconic names of past golf legends such as Old Tom Morris
and Laurie Auchterlonie, then its little wonder why so
many international golfers wish to indulge in the nostalgia
that makes St Andrews great.

We also witnessed the players survive a weather lashed

grueling five day work week with the fine Scottish mist
making an appearance just to give an edge to the proceedings.
In an Open missing the current World number one Rory
Mcllroy, no one would have guessed that the 2015 Open
would be settled by a three way play off and that Americas
man of the moment Jordan Spieth would narrowly miss out
from a slack wedge shot that ended up in the valley of sin.

The town is steeped in golf and golf lore, the many pubs
that are nearby the first tee of the Old Course provide local
golfers, visitors and caddies a chance to discuss that missed
putt or to simply recollect what it was like to play on the
games most ancient layout.
I can recall a chance encounter, I say chance encounter as I
was not of legal age to partake in the consumption of a pint
when I met Arnold Palmers former caddy; Tip Anderson a
legend of the caddying profession and a great story teller.
When St. Andrews does host the Open the town is electric
with the buzz of anticipation. It is golf on steroids. A
veritable whos who in the golf world descends on this small
town with a population of 18,000. The great Jack Nicklaus,
once said When the British Open is in Scotland, there is
something special about it and when its at St. Andrews,
its even greater.

This is the beauty of the Open, unpredictability with the

Scottish weather playing a huge part in shot making and
the players handling the hidden undulations on the greens.
A generous crowd gathered around the famous 18th green
and as Zach Johnson lifted the famous claret jug amidst
the cry of the St. Andrews seagulls, the sun broke through
and it started raining simultaneously.
The great Bobby Jones once said of St. Andrews; If I could
take out of my life everything except my experiences at St.
Andrews and I would still have a rich and full life
The next time the Open visits St. Andrews will be 2021
to celebrate 150 years of golfs oldest professional golf
tournament. One thing is certain whoever wins will
require patience and perseverance to master St. Andrews
hallowed fairways.

Cambodias leading amateur golfer, Ly Hong, told us before

the event that he is focused on winning and he did exactly
just that. In doing so, he made history by becoming the first
person to win the Angkor Amateur Open more than once
with a consistent performance of 71 on both rounds for a
total of 142. The left handed golfer lifted the championship
trophy for the first time in 2012 before claiming it again
this year by dethroning last years champion, Amish Jaitha.

SIEM REAP

The race for the title was a close one, as Amish produced a
round of 70 on the first day, leading Ly Hong by one stroke.
However, it was Ly Hongs steady play and skillful short
game on the second day that sealed the deal and allowed
him to cruise ahead of Amish by a total of four strokes.
I am very happy since I was in second place last year
and now I am back in first place. On the first day, I was
trailing Amish by one stroke. Once we entered the second
day, I tried my best to keep a good score and it worked out
just like Id hope. The tournament this year is even more
special as Amish and I had a very intense battle. Hes a
very good golfer, nothing like your average player. Ly
Hong told Cambodia Golf Today. For next year, I will
continue to try my best. Anything that you set your mind
to will succeed and I am determined to give it my all to
get the victory. he added.
I had a steady first round. I played the first nine holes
fairly well on the second round, but that indifferent back
nine (4 bogeys) set me back a great deal and after a fantastic
20 meter putt from Ly Hong on the 16th I knew it was
played Amish said.

I never really thought that I would be the net winner since

I can do it, I hope to win the tournament next year. said

after battling it out with Violy Pegels. With a different of one

score of 177 and Pegels settling for the net winner with 73

This is my first win in the tournament since I`ve started

tournament by scoring only 1 stroke less than her on the
second round thanks to the birdie that I made at the last

pleased to be able to play with the other competitors as it
was really fun. I hope to play with them next time in the

Amidst a group of 120 players, Cambodia Golf Todays

very own, Sylvester, was in the mix and had quite the
experience. Lets see what he has to say:
The event this year was as what we expected from previous years,
well organized. After being picked up by the busses from PSD
Travel, we were greeted by our caddies upon our arrival to the
golf course on the first day of the event. Even though the weather
from the days before and the days of the event were not in the
player`s favor, during the rounds itself, it stayed dry. I take my
hat off to the maintenance team of Angkor Golf Resort for doing
a terrific job on keeping the course in great condition. After each
round, the enjoyment didn`t stop as the lunches organized by
Raffles Grand Hotel dAngkor was exactly what I needed after
an exhausting day of golf.
The Gala dinner at the Sokha Angkor Resort Hotel after the first
day was quite an experience for everyone. A true five star buffet
was there to fill us up under the tunes of great live band and after
prizes were given out to the first day winners from the hand of
David Baron, I went back to my hotel to rest up and prepare myself
for the final round of the event. I am not going to talk about how
my game was during the two days, but players who struggled
on the course like me also had the opportunity to work on their
game with AGR`s recent Head PGA Pro, Alan Martin. He truly
is a welcoming addition to the golf scene in Cambodia, his clear
instructions on my bunker play made a world of difference that I
did not expect. With limited choice of golf teachers in Cambodia,
I hope to work with Alan more often on my game as I believe that
he can bring me to a level that I want to be at. Angkor Amateur
open 2025 is going to be mine!
I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did and I hope to see you
all back next year.

It seems like Sylvester had a great time as the event was

indeed well organized. Despite the down pour presented
by mother nature, there were no visible problems on the

into maintenance of the course to ensure the tournament
run smoothly.

SIEM REAP

Its been a fantastic three days had by all and were

delighted with the response and feedback from all of the
players. The event has gone from strength to strength and
although the prizes are fiercely contested the camaraderie
and friendship shown among the competitors is what makes
the event so special said Baron.
In the three days preceding the event we had over 15cm
of rainfall and a further 3cm on Saturday evening yet the
course was presented in immaculate condition thanks to
golf course superintendant Jim Gubricky and his team.
The participation from local and international sponsors
was very pleasing and I must pay a special thank you to
lead sponsors Tiger Beer. he added.
So what is going to happen next year? Is Ly Hong going to
repeat his victory? Will Amish take back the title? Or will
someone else steal the trophy? The unpredictability aspect
of it is what makes this grand tournament so exciting as we
look forward to every single bit of it next year.

Who can deny the greatness and the impact on

the game of golf made by Eldrick Tont Tiger
Woods? His presence and dominance on the
field has inspired many great young players
by the likes of Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler,
Jordan Spieth and many more to pick up their
clubs and start pursuing their dreams.

The 2008 U.S. Open was a tournament that will be
remembered for years to come as we saw a wounded Tiger
basically won the whole thing with one good leg. Having
been plagued by a knee injury all week, Tiger limped to
the 18th hole and made a dramatic 15 feet putt to force a
playoff in which he defeated Rocco Mediate to reach his
14th major title. Two days after, Tiger went on to receive
a surgery on his injured left knee that would put him out
for the rest of the season.
Tiger made his return after eight months of absent, but
something seemed off. And following his infidelity scandal
and divorce, it shows clearly that the Tiger we all knew
wasnt there anymore. The power, the accuracy and the
confidence were nowhere to be found.

FEATURE
The 2010 and 2011 season saw Tiger Woods without a
single victory on the tour. He started winning again in
2012; however, injuries after injuries saw Tiger starting
to go down hill. The last time that he won a tournament
was over two years ago at the Bridgestone Invitation on
August 4 2013.
Since then, critics have been saying that Tigers career is
done and he will never win again. People are saying hes
no longer a lock to take down Sam Sneads all-time PGA
Tour victories record, let alone Jack Nicklauss all-time
major victories record.

First off, lets talk numbers. Snead has 82 PGA Tour wins
while Tiger has 79 and Nicklaus has 18 majors while Tiger
has 14. Now lets talk about Tiger. Will he be the same?
Of course not. Will he win again? Of course he will. Were
talking about Tiger Woods here! TIGER! WOODS! The
guy who won the U.S. Open with one leg! The guy who is
only three wins away from tying Sneads record and four
from beating it! The idea that Tiger Woods will not end
his career as the all-time leader in PGA Tour victories is
just absurd. As for Nicklaus record, its really hard to say
which is why were going to see what the record holder
himself has to say.

Tiger

Jack The Golden Bear Nicklaus still believe in Tiger

despite what many may think. On an interview with an
ESPN Radio program called Mike & Mike about a year
ago, Nicklaus said he feels very bad for Tiger since he has
worked really hard to break the record and he still thinks
Tiger will surpass him and get to 19 major titles.

FEATURE

As long as he is physically able to do it. ... Hes 38 (now

39) years old and hes probably got another 10 years at least
of being able to compete -- thats 40 more majors to win
five of them. It shouldnt be too difficult. said Nicklaus
in the interview.
What Nicklaus pointed out makes perfect sense. The golden
bear himself won his last three major after he reached 40
years old. If Tiger can stay healthy and resume his focus, its
quite possible that he will surpass Nicklaus before he retires.
His recent performance at Wyndham Championship saw
Tiger shot a 64 (best round in 2 years!) and 65 during the
first two days of the event which made him go into the
weekend as leader. It shows that he still has it in him after
all. After a 68 on day three he went in to the last round 2
shots back. At the final day, he was done after a triple bogey
at the par 4 11th and a bogey on 12th. Even though he still
managed to keep his cool and birdied 4 of the remaining 6
holes for an even 70, it was not enough and he fell back to
10th place. This was his first top 10 since the Northwestern
Mutual World Challenge back in 2013 and now let`s hope
he can continue this form. He mentioned that he most likely
will play in the Frys.com tournament in October and we
will be here watching him on TV, anxiously waiting for
the real Tiger to return.
You can say whatever you want about Tiger, but it is
not and will not change the fact that he will go down as
one of the greatest golfer in history when its all said and
done. Whether he could surpass the records of Snead and
Nicklaus or not, we will just have to wait and see. But as
we have learnt time and time again, never underestimate
the roar of a Tiger.

Thongpipat won the overall competition with a combined

a mind-boggling 66 on the second round to tie the course
record set by last years young champion, Putt Sridama.

Thongpipat

Thongpipat stood out immediately when I met him on the

range during the practice round. He is naturally talented and
technically gifted young player with an excellent attitude
to match. He is a strong boy and at just 14 years old he is
certainly a name to remember. I wish him every success
in the Grand Final. said David Baron, Director of Golf of

In the U16 division, Paolo Barro of the Philippines secured
his passage to the grand final by shooting 78 and 74 for a
combined score of 152, cruising past runner-up Ariyaway
Juprangs total of 158. Claiming victory of the girls division
was Jenjira Jinangkul from Thailand after producing rounds
of 73 and 75. Closely follow was Soktaerodh Sean of New
Zealand who is behind by 2 strokes.
Yet again the Faldo Series Cambodia was a great success,
showcasing some of the regions future champions. I was
very impressed with the way all the players conducted
themselves throughout the event and, as always, I was
blown away with the ability of some of the youngsters,
Baron said.
While the young golfers battle it out for a spot in the Grand

GOLF ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD

Part II Modeling Excellence

DEVELOPMENT

Welcome back to our second input for Cambodia Golf Today.

In Part II, I will explain a technique that can assist anyone in
achieving your goals faster, whether talking about golf or any
other goal that you desire: modeling.

Of course I am not talking about modeling in terms of the

catwalk, where gorgeous women parade on a walkway and
people stare at the latest fashion to hit the racks next season.
I am talking about modeling excellence in performance.
In modeling, were talking about patterning yourself on
others success. Something like a role-model, but much,
much deeper.
Every field has people who excel. Sports, business, music,
art and many other professions all present highly talented
people creating exceptional results. Golf is no stranger.
Just think of Palmer, Nicolas, Woods, Hogan, Snead, Els,
and the list goes on.
How can you replicate or duplicate the masters by bringing
out the excellence in you? Modeling.
It is absolutely important to know that anyone can understand and replicate the thinking and strategies of others
who have achieved excellence. Can you be exactly like Tiger
Woods or Ernie Els? Short answer: No. Why? Because there
is no way that you can have their experiences, physiology,

46 - Cambodia Golf Today

or personalities. What
you can do however
is model your techniques based around
their techniques so you
take on some of their
capabilities.
The first step is to must
choose a person (a golfer in this case) who you
believe is outstanding at golf and figure out what precisely
it is that he/she does, then map what strategies they use-the actual steps in thinking and acting--that they perform
routinely when they are excelling at their game.
When talking about physical skills, such as hitting a golf
ball, your mental state is crucial in making the necessary
muscles act together in the desired sequence in order
to hit that ball in the right manner every time. In a later
article, I will talk about State something that is crucial
to everything we do in life. The take-away here is to know
everything about the person youre modeling, from the

way he/she grips the club, to the motion he/she uses, his/
her head movement, and so on.
The following list can be used to begin your journey to
modeling someone:
1. Identify a person who is outstanding at what he/she does,
your inspiration.
2. Observe their body language (physiology).
3. What is their motivation for consistent results?
4. Whats their personality, attitude, behavior?
5. What are their beliefs? What they hold to be true to them.
6. What are their values? What they hold to be important
to them.
7. What are their strategies, like a recipe, the order &
sequence?
8. How feedback (failure) gets them towards progress
and success.
9. Write down what you observe.
10. Do it yourself.
11. Get feedback on how you modeled them (evaluate
with logic).
12. Teach someone else.
The key to modeling is to learn how to duplicate these
results, but duplicate for your own usage. Read books on
your inspiration, know what they think, how they think,
why they think the way they think. Watch videos. In todays

world, there is an immense amount

of information at our finger tips
about the people we want to model.
Always, always, always remember
to stick to your PURPOSE as
outlined in Article I. For what
PURPOSE am I modeling this
person? Answer: To know more
about this person, to understand
their thinking and behaviors, in order for me to duplicate
the outcomes I believe are necessary for my success!!

I CONTROL

I EXPLORE
I live for PURPOSE

I PURSUE

I PRESERVE

Never forget this point. The person(s) youre modeling,

the expert, didnt wake up one morning and have a great
golf swing or become a champion overnight. Modeling
is important, but they worked extremely hard at it. They
practiced both physically and mentally, they hired coaches,
trainers, they had a plan. Again, look at what they did and
model their excellence.
In our next article, I will be looking at visualization. The
power of seeing clearly your goals and outcomes.
Until next time, hit your balls hard and straight.

THE RACE TO THE TOP

After spending a little over a year at the top of
the Official World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy
was finally knock down to second place by
Jordan Spieth after an amazing top 2 finish
behind Jason Day at the final major of the
season, the PGA Championship.
About two weeks later, Spieth was pushed back down to
No. 2 on the ranking after failing to make the cut at The
Barclays. Rory McIlroy moved back up to the No. 1 spot
despite not even competing in that week because the ranking
system doesnt always make sense.
Ive reached that peak already and I know its going to be
close enough to where if I just get the job done next week
(Deutsche Bank Championship), Ill be back in that ranking.
But again, that ranking, its great once you reach it but its
not something that Im going to live or die on each week.
Spieth said on the PGA Tour website.

Another factor to be taken into consideration is the fact

that Jordan Spieth have competed in more events than
Rory McIlroy this year; therefore, his divisor is bigger. So
while McIlroy is taking time off to recover from his injury
and Spieth going out to compete, one poor performance
such as the one that we saw at The Barclays would reduces
Spieths average point on the ranking whereas McIlroys
points would stay basically the same.
It doesnt really make much of a difference. If you go on
a three- or four-year cycle, Rory is No. 1 in the world. If
you go just base off of this year, I am. They just use two
years. Spieth further added.
Even Rory McIlroy himself thinks that Jordan Spieth
deserves to be No. 1. At the PGA Championship, McIlroy
said that if we were to go by this year, Spieth is definitely
the guy and if we were to go by the last two years it would
be a toss-up between Spieth and himself.

FEATURE

The way the Official World Golf Ranking is calculated is

based on a players average performance in the last two years
which means anything older than 24 months is discarded
and a players latest performance plays a huge role on his
average point total and his ranking.

FEATURE

Nevertheless, Spieths short reign as the No. 1 ranked

golfer in the world doesnt make him anything less of a
great player. Actually, its quite the opposite. How many
players can say that they have been the No. 1 golfer in the
world at one point in their careers? The answer to that is
not many and if we want to be more precise, theres only
been 18 different golfers in history that can say they have
been at the top spot of the Official World Golf Ranking
with Spieth being the 18th addition.
Meanwhile, as Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are neck
and neck for the No. 1 spot on the ranking, a third player
that goes by the name Jason Day is rapidly closing in and
could very well take the top spot if he continues to play
the way he has been playing lately.
Before going into The Barclays, Jordan Spieth had 12.352
points and ranked first on the Official World Golf Ranking
followed by Rory McIlroy in second with 12.300 points
and Jason Day in third with just over nine points. After
The Barclays, we saw McIlroy moved back up to first place
with 12.356 points and Spieth slid down to second again
with 12.220 points where as Day remained in third place
with 10.990 points.
Noticed something there? Thats right, Jason Days point
has jumped significantly whereas the other two only saw
a slight fluctuation. His record breaking performance of
-20 to par at the PGA Championship and a tremendous -19
to par victory at The Barclays show clearly that he is more
than capable of capturing the No. 1 spot.
What was once a two man race to the top has now become
a three way battle. Will Rory McIlroy keep his spot at the
top? Will Jordan Spieth once again knock down McIlroy?
Or will Jason Day become the 19th person to be called
the No. 1 golfer in the world? We dont know for sure as
anything can happen. What we do know however, it is
going to be very fun and exciting watching these players
fight for rights to be called the best golfer in the world in
the upcoming years.
