Introduce the subject of fractions by
providing a display of magnetic
fraction tile manipulatives on the
whiteboard. THe teacher will engage
the students by referencing their
memory of prior knowledge such as:
Do you remember studying fractions
in other grades? Do you think that
you ever use fractions in real life?
Allow some time for oral expression
and conversation with the class.
After establishing the introduction,
announce that I am going to test
your knowledge. I will provide a
simple short worksheet
(assessment) of fractions. This
worksheet will present pictures of
pie graphs that is purposely geared
as a visual trigger for representation

Use this as a review for the students
who are having a hard time grasping
the concept. You can also give
students time in class to work on
this.
*The time is merely a suggestion based on a 45-55 minute period of time (normally middle school and high school).
Elementary school schedule depends on the subject. ELA/Reading is normally no less than a 90 minute block of
time.
