Quiz for module one of the circle (Do not look at the answers until you
have finished the test)
1) If the earth was perfect sphere, and 25,000 miles around at its widest point, what is the
3) If a trampoline has circumference 3 meters how far is it from the outer edge to the center?
3𝜋
6) What is the sin of an angle that has an arc length of , express you answer as a fraction.
4
10. For quadrant 3, determine, the signs for sin, cos and tangent.
Answers to the circle module one quiz
1) If the earth is 25,000 miles around at the equator, ( the largest part of the circle ) then that
would make the circumference 25,000 miles. Since the circumference:
C = 2πR and we are looking for R ( the radius from the center of the earth to the surface )
𝐶 25,000
R= = = 3,979 miles.
2𝜋 6.2832
A = π R2
A = 3.1416 x 42
A = 3.1416 x 16 = 50.2656 sq inches
3) If the trampoline is 3 meters in circumference then:
C=2πR
3 = (2)(3.1416) R
3
= R = .47746
6.2832
4) What is the measure in radians of one degree?
𝜋
10 = 1 x = 0.01745 radian
180 0
𝜋
5) 600 = radians or 1.0472 radians
3
2
6)
2
𝑦
7) The tangent of 900 is undefined because tan θ = at 900 x = 0 and division by 0 is undefined.
𝑥
𝜋
8) If angle θ is 250 then 250 = 25 x = 0.43633 radians
180 0
9) This one is a little tougher if you're not careful. look at the drawing
1
tan = tan = 1 = 450
𝑐𝑜𝑡
cot = 1 +1
1
tan = = 1 but the tan is positive in
1
quadrant 1 and 3
+1
tan = 1 = 2250
− 2 2
So this question has multiple answers it could be cos = or
2 2
− 2 2
sin = or
2 2
tan = 1
If you missed this one, hold on to your hat in module 2
10) tan is +
cos is -
sin is -
