A map of the current weather patterns in Southaven, Mississippi shown

at a local scale
Current weather patterns show at a local scale of Southaven, Mississippi.

The pattern that is displayed here on the local scale of the map happens to be a light form
of rain occurring in Southaven, Mississippi. From the visible legend on the right, we can see that
the lighter colors (such as the light green, light violet, and light turquoise) indicate a lesser
severity of rainfall or snow whereas the darker colors (such as the deep purples, deep violets, and
royal blues) indicate a more intense severity of rainfall or snow. Back to the local scale of the
map, it is exemplified here that cities to the south of Southaven are experiencing more cloud
coverage along with some rain. This brings forth many reasons as to why Southaven is currently
experiencing some lighter levels of precipitation. As you will notice in the regional map of
Southaven, Mississippi, clouds near the coastal areas are being blown inland towards the
northern parts of Mississippi; thus, resulting in the cities south of Southaven to experience more
cloud cover and rain. Because the map and legend indicate low levels of precipitation, it is
inferable that the incoming clouds are Nimbostratus clouds which are usually associated with
light to moderate levels of precipitation. This particular cloud type forms over low altitudes and
produce lighter levels of rain due to the fact that the clouds base is diffused, and air mass levels
are low.

Clouds are near the Coast and moving inland toward the Northern part of Mississippi

The clouds decrease as they near the Northern part of the state. Storm clouds are lingering over
the southern region of Mississippi and bring in possible rain for the days ahead. The clouds are
low and coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. Nimbostratus is a low laying cloud that is dark in
color and carries rain or is a sign of bad weather it is in the 6500 range and close to the surface.
The clouds are so dark that it blocks the sun. Nimbostratus clouds are the cause of the summer
and winter rains. Nimbostratus clouds form because of a warm front where the slowly rising
warm air connect and transform from Stratus clouds those along with higher-level clouds like
cirrostratus and altostratus. When an altostratus cloud is thick it descends into lower altitudes, it
will become nimbostratus. When water evaporates from land or the ocean it turns the liquid into
a vapor, when that vapor rises it cools then turns back into a liquid and forms a droplet. The end
result is a cloud or maybe on the ground is called fog. When the droplets accumulate they fall to
the ground that is rain, if the temperature is colder the droplets are snow.

global scale
Current weather patterns of Southaven, Mississippi shown at a global scale.

In this map, we can see that a mixture of high and low clouds is making their way from
the Midwest traveling east towards Mississippi. Due to passages of a variety of air masses
accompanied with conditions found in the atmosphere to be unstable, the Midwest tend to
experience more severe storms throughout the year. There is light rain found in the Mixture of
these clouds because generally in low clouds called Cumulonimbus clouds, they tend to produce
showers or snow along with thunderstorms and lighting. Lightning usually occurs in clouds that
are precipitating and where temperatures are above freezing levels. Here, on the bottom, we can
see a stationary front travel from the northwest to the south east. This type of weather is usually
found in a stationary front are clouds and precipitation and can also be accompanied with rain
and freezing rain.
