Mr. Clarence Williams, Principal
Wakeland High School
10700 Legacy Road
Frisco, Texas, 75034
Dear Mr. Williams,
As the new director of bands at Wakeland High School, I intend to maintain the
tradition of excellence that has been established in the past. In order to maintain
this tradition it is essential to create a firm yet necessary budget to operate on.
Enclosed is a one year budget based on regular needs of a high school band. These
costs include instrument maintenance/needs, show costs, travel costs, and any
miscellaneous items that are needed.
Also enclosed is a 5 year plan based on what I would contribute to the band. I think
it would be beneficial for the students to have a small trip planned yearly. If
possible, I would like for the entire marching band to go on this trip and have a
performance as it is the largest of the ensembles. It is not in my interest to exclude
any students from band activities, and by taking the marching band on this trip
most of the students in band will be eligible to go. These yearly trips would take
place in the spring semester.
In addition to the yearly trips, I would also like to have a bigger trip planned at least
every four years. This kind of trip would be a three to five day endeavor and would
require hotels, food, etc. for the students. This would be a great opportunity for
students as it calls for a great deal of professionalism, and this trait is something I
would like to instill in the students. To take pride in their surroundings enough so
that wherever they go, they leave it better than it was found, and people they
interact with actually want them to come back. A trip of this scale also is a defining
moment in a students high school career and they will remember it for years to
come.
It has also come to my attention that a new bassoon is in dire need. The current
bassoon our school owns has reached its life limit. Students cannot play
sufficiently on poor equipment, and I believe it is my responsibility as their band
director to make it possible for them to have the best experience possible.
My overall goal as a band director is to instill and maintain a high level of excellence
in not only the bands, but in the development of the students as well.
Sincerely,

Joshua Ready
