Lesson

The day will be spent doing centers to help students get a better
understanding of the concepts through engaging activities.

Center #1: Battleship

See document labelled Battleship Activity on site. Or click here.

Center #2: Go Fish

In this center students will have a deck of cards. Half of the deck
will be cards that have a picture of a graph with a linear line. Then
the other half will be the matching equation of the line. Students

have to start off with 5 cards each, and if they have a match pair
within their hand, that is one set. Next students will ask each
other, one at a time, for the card they are looking for in order to
get a set, just like Go Fish. Students will continue until there are no
more cards left, the student with the most sets wins.

You can find an example of this activity here.

Center #3: Snakes and Ladders

At this center students will need a snakes and ladders board and
the question cards. The question cards should be on material that
has been covered in this unit, to help the students review for a
unit test. On the cards this is how students will discover how
many spaces to move forward, if answered correctly, or move
backwards if question is answered incorrectly. The student who is
answering the question only has 30 seconds to answer the
question, if they do not answer the question in that amount of
time they have to move backwards the number stated on the card.
This needs to be timed with a timer that is provided by the
teacher. The first student to reach the top will win. Click here for
an example of cards and questions to ask.

Meeting Needs of Diverse Learners:

Students Who Finish Early: If students finish early they can continue onto the
next center. If some students finish all of the stations, have then work on a
worksheet or practice more questions in preparation for the unit exam.
Students Who Appear To Be Struggling: Students will be completing the centers
in groups, so if there are students who are struggling they can get help from their
peers or the teacher who is circling and observing the classroom.

Assessment:
Formative Assessment: The teacher can get formative assessment from observing
the students as they complete the centers.

Conclusion:
The students should fully understand the concepts in the unit, and are prepared
for the unit exam.
