STOP the Federal Takeover of Pennsylvania’s Health Care System Petition

We, the undersigned, demand the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Pennsylvania Senate and Governor of the Common-
wealth of Pennsylvania do the following: defend Pennsylvania and its residents against any federal attempt to take over our health
care system; protect the rights of Pennsylvanians to refuse to participate in a government-run health care plan; guard the doc-
tor-patient relationship against intrusion from the federal government; amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to formally protect
Pennsylvanians’ right to choose their own health care and to purchase health care from the provider of their choice; and support
House Bill 2053, the “Health Care Freedom Act,” and House Bill 2179 (see reverse side for more information about these bills).

STOP the Federal Takeover of Pennsylvania’s Health Care System

Congress recently approved a plan to implement a

federal takeover of the health care system. In a re-
sponse to what is happening in Washington, D.C.,
two pieces of legislation have been introduced in the
Pennsylvania General Assembly in Harrisburg.

• House Bill 2053 (“Health Care Freedom Act”) –

This bill would preserve an individual’s right to refuse
to take part in a government-run health care plan. It
also would protect the patient-doctor relationship.

• House Bill 2179 – This legislation proposes an

amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution that
would protect the right of Pennsylvania residents to
choose their own health care plan and to purchase
health care insurance from the provider of their
choice.

State lawmakers cannot control the actions of federal

lawmakers in Washington, D.C. However, by sup-
porting these two pieces of legislation, state represen-
tatives, state senators and the governor can protect
the health care rights of Pennsylvania residents.
