Task:
You are to conduct a survey on a topic of your own choice.
You will need to complete a report by answering the questions under the following headings
1.

Topic & Question

Choose a topic and question(s) that you need to ask for your survey.
(eg How long you watch TV or play computer games each day/week? What you have for recess/lunch? What type
or colour of car do most people have? Where were you born? Number your countries in order of preference. How
much pocket money do you get? How long do you spend on homework each night/week? What chores do you
have? What is your favourite ... band, song, car, sport, pet, drink, food, subject, TV show? etc.)
2.

Data Collection
Work out how you are going to collect the information.
(eg short answers, tick a box, multiple choice, fill in the blanks, number in order of preference, written tally, show
of hands tally, people select more than one or only answer, ask for individual answers or a whole group at a time)
If you are doing a written survey, attach the questions to your report.
4.

5.

Survey Target Group/s

Decide which group/s you are going to collect the data from.
You may survey one group (eg. Students in years 4 & 5, or boys from R-5) OR
compare 2 different groups (eg Year 5 girls and year 5 boys; or Reception students and Year 5 students)
Results
Record your results in the form of a tally AND
Create a column graph OR composite column graph showing your results. Make sure that your graph has a
heading, and the x and y axes are clearly labelled.
Present your graph NEATLY and clearly, using a ruler.

6.
Analysis & Interpretation
Describe your results. What was the most/least common answer? What percentage of people put this answer?
Why do you think this was? Were there differences between the answers of each group surveyed? Why do you
think this did/did not occur?
1

Neat and accurate graph of data
Clearly labelled graph
Good interpretation of results
Neat & clear presentation of report
