oftheAustralianalps.TheMontanesectiontakesupalargemajorityof
theAlps.Acommonclimaticconditionsassociatedwiththeareainclude

Occursontheleesideofthemountainduetotheairloosingmoistureon
thewindwardsideofthemountain.Thisiscausedorographiccloud
formation.LargemountainsliketheAlpswillmorestronglyaffectthe
rainfallpatterns.InsoutheastAustralia,rainbearingwindsnormally
comeoutofanarkfromthewesttosouthwest.Thegreatdividingrange
providesabarrierformanylessintense,lowpressuresystem,withmost
oftherainprecipitatingonthesouthernandwesternfaces.
WherewewillbetravelingtoinsouthernNSWexperiencesrelatively
warmweatherduringcoldandwetwesterlyornorthwesterlywind
elsewhere.Theseparticularwindsriseupthewindwardsideofthe
mountains,coolingandsheddingmoisture.
