What I Learned
This Summer
I enjoyed working a small, private, liberal arts
institution. Webster University has a well-known
reputation as a fine arts school in the Midwest,
and I liked getting to see the nuts and bolts of
that type of institution.

Meet Me In St. Louis

St. Louis, Missouri was such a great place to spend
the summer! Some of my favorite things to do were
go up into The Arch, explore Forrest Park, and to
see a show at the MUNY Outdoor Theatre. Oh, and
Go Cards!

There is a Webster Way. Similar to my cohort

members expressing the Wake Way or the
Elon Way, Webster is no dierent. There are
certain procedures in place that have been long
established. This can be challenging as an intern
with limited time, but on the other hand that
consistency allows for a quick learning curve.

I made major steps in finding my voice as a

professional. This summer I was given autonomy
to plan RA Training and an RHA Leadership
Advance. With these projects, I learned how to
communicate eectively with professionals in a
new institution, how to utilize the program
planning experience I have, and how to better
collaborate with community partners.

Although the city of St. Louis oers a great place

to live and to work, I decided the Mid-West will
not be at the top of my list when it comes time
for me to job search. I missed North Carolina and
living in the Southeast and will most likely refine
my job search to this area of the country.

My experience at Webster University as an ACUHO-I

intern gave me the chance to live as a Student Aairs
Professional, allowed me to explore an exciting city in
a new part of the country, and to make connections
with professionals that will last throughout my career.
If I could describe my summer in one word it would
be invaluable.
