Apartment G Greensboro, NC 27403 731-217-2017 rachcadams@gmail.com Dear Alicia, I am writing to express my interest in the Coordinator for Residence Life (Student Leadership) position at Appalachian State University. I became aware of the Coordinator for Residence Life (Student Leadership) position through an online job database. I am a second year graduate student in the Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education (SPAHE) program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). I hold a Graduate Assistantship position at UNCG with the SPAHE program. With this position, I serve as the main contact for prospective students, assist in large scale event planning for the SPAHE two day on-campus interview event called SPARK. My choice to pursue a career in Student Affairs stems from my experiences at the undergraduate and graduate levels. As an undergraduate I held various leadership positions within Residence Life as well as Admissions and Student Services. As a graduate student, I held three internships in Leadership, Veteran Affairs, and Residence Life. In my internship with UNCGs Office of Leadership and Service Learning, I facilitated leadership sessions and gave students tools needed to develop their leadership skills. As an intern with the Veterans Resource Center at UNCG, I performed state-wide benchmarking for similar Veterans Centers, oversaw the process through which Military Connected Students obtain benefits, and assisted in program planning for Veterans Day programs and initiatives. Finally, I served as the Residential Leadership and Education Coordinator at Webster University as part of ACUHO-I internship program. At Webster, I assisted in the planning and presentation of Resident Assistant Training, prepared department-wide assessment materials, and led a three-day leadership training for the Executive Board of the Residential Hall Association (RHA). During this leadership training, I worked with students to revise Websters RHA Constitution, to plan RHAs programs for the semester, and to establish a new Executive position that will best meet the needs of RHA community at Webster. These experiences have helped define my budding career as a Student Affairs professional. The Coordinator for Residence Life (Student Leadership) position will allow me to foster the organizational, and administrative skills I already possess, and will assist in building on several core competencies for Student Affairs professionals, such as Leadership, Supervision, and Advising & Helping. Thank-you for your time and consideration of my application material. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Rachel Adams
