Expected Start Date: January 4th, 2016
Expected End Date: May 20th, 2016
GUIDELINES
1. Proposal submission timeline: Proposals should be submitted at least one month prior to the expected
start date of the experience. International experiences require at least two months notice. Contact your
honors advisor immediately for any exceptions.
2. Proposal length: While the quality of the proposal is most important, strong proposals are typically 3-4
pages single-spaced.
3. Proposal format: Please maintain the proposal format (e.g. headers, layout)
4. Time commitment: Experiences should consist of at least 75-90 hours of preparation, execution, and
reflection. This is approximately equivalent to the commitment of honors seminars and pre-approved
experiences.
1. Abstract
For this project, I will be a Teachers Assistant in Mrs. Heidi Browns 3 rd grade classroom at C.O. Harrison
Elementary school in Delhi Township. I am specifically going to be focusing on the gifted students, in that I will be
sitting down with them in a small group for about an hour a week, in order to take them to new levels in their
educational experience. In essence, I will do a new activity with this small group each week that has to do with what
the entire classroom is learning at that given time, but our group will be going deeper into the content and furthering
their understanding of the content at hand. This experience is extremely personally meaningful because I was a gifted
student myself, and I remember that before I was able to join the ACCESS program in the fourth grade that I felt
bored in school, simply because the content was never challenging or engaging to me. My goal is this project is to
provide a challenge for students who were just like me, who crave to go deeper and to understand better and to learn
more. This experience also offers on hand experience with students in the classroom, skills that are extremely useful
in the field I am currently going into, which is Speech Pathology. My timeline for this experience is visiting the
classroom once a week for about an hour at a time from the beginning of the spring semester until the students at C.O.
Harrison are released for the summer.
Briefly describe the experience. What makes this experience personally meaningful? What goals do you have for this
experience? What is your timeline for this experience?
*If you are proposing an international experience, provide an itinerary.
**If you are developing this experience from an existing opportunity (class with a study tour, campus organization, co-op,
etc.) that is not already an honors seminar or pre-approved experience, how will you differentiate your experience from
what is already required of other students?

2. Experience Advisor
For this experience, my advisor will be Amanda Shoemaker, who can be reached by email at
shoemaan@ucmail.uc.edu. I chose Mandy because she is/was my Gateway to Honors Program professor, and I really
enjoyed her joyful spirit and supportive attitude. I have never felt unaccomplished, dumb, or unappreciated when
talking to Mandy, and I know that I will need her support, not only throughout this experience, but also throughout the
remainder of my college career. Throughout this experience, I would wish to meet with Mandy at set intervals in
order to discuss the format of my reflection, what I should discuss in it, and just to check in with her and tell her how
amazing this experience really is!
Identify an experience advisor and provide their contact information. Explain why you chose this person and how you
plan to utilize your advisor for this experience.
Note: Advisor(s) should have knowledge or expertise in an area related to the experience. Honors advisors, undergraduate
students, and family members cannot be experience advisors.

5. On-going Reflection
For this project, I plan on journaling every day after my in-class time, reflecting on what activities were done and
what learning objectives were accomplished for the students. I will journal, and I also hope to take some pictures of my
small group students, and maybe have them write out a page of how I helped them to learn more and become better
students. Some reflection prompts that I will be utilizing every week during my experience will include:
1. What activity was done in class today? What learning objectives did it address?
2. How did the students react to the activity? Did they seem to understand the material?
3. How were the students behavior today? Did any of them seem distracted, upset, unusually tired, or otherwise not
at 100%? How did I address these students?
4. How did I progress towards my personal learning objectives today?
5. Did I keep an open communication with Mrs. Brown today? What was discussed?
6. How did I encourage these higher levels students today? Did I make it easy to achieve a deeper understanding?
Was I patient when they didnt understand the material?
The on-going reflection should help you process the experience and progress toward your chosen learning outcomes.
Describe your method for reflecting throughout the experience. Indicate specific reflection questions/topics you plan to
use to guide your reflective process.
Note: A variety of methods can be used for on-going reflection. Some examples are videos, drawings, blogs, songs, and
journals. Reflection topics to consider include your ideas/insights about the experience, connection to other areas of
involvement, and your progress towards the learning outcomes.
