Estructura

El libro est dividido en tres partes:

Primera parte: Los amigos del bosque

Segunda parte: Soldados de Salamina

Tercera parte: Cita en Stockton

La primera se refiere a la primera vez que escucha la

historia de Rafael Snchez Mazas y se comienza a
interesar por ella, decidindose finalmente el
periodista narrador, el propio Javier Cercas, a escribir
la historia. La segunda parte es la historia
propiamente tal, que busca atenerse a los hechos
reales provistos por entrevistas y documentaciones
obtenidas gracias a su investigacin. La tercera parte
habla de las dudas del escritor por la publicacin del
libro, y de la posibilidad surgida a travs de Roberto
Bolao para conocer a Miralles, un veterano de
guerra comunista que le contar la versin de
izquierdas de la historia, pudiendo terminar
finalmente la novela.

Soldados de Salamina es el ttulo de

una novela del escritor extremeo Javier
Cercas publicada en 2001.
El ttulo hace alusin a la famosa batalla de
Salamina en la que la flota ateniense venci a la
persa, aunque el argumento de la novela slo tenga
que ver metafricamente con este episodio histrico.
Escrita en primera persona, es una novela
testimonio y presenta su carcter de historia y ficcin
a la vez.

Fue en aquel momento cuando record el relato

de mi primer libro que Bolao me haba
recordado en nuestra primera entrevista, en el
cual un hombre induce a otro a cometer un
crimen para poder terminar su novela (...)

RESUMEN DEL LIBRO

En los ltimos meses de la Guerra Civil espaola, un
miliciano annimo perdona la vida a un prfugo
Snchez Mazas, escritor e idelogo falangista.
Un joven periodista topa por casualidad con una
historia fascinante de la Guerra Civil espaola, y se
propone reconstruirla. Cuando las tropas
republicanas se retiran hacia la frontera francesa,
camino del exilio, deciden fusilar a un grupo de
presos franquistas, entre los que se encuentra Rafael
Snchez Mazas, fundador e idelogo de Falange. En
la confusin, Snchez Mazas logra huir del
fusilamiento colectivo, y lograr vivir emboscado
hasta el final de la guerra, protegido por un grupo de
campesinos de la regin, aunque siempre recordar
al miliciano de extraa mirada que, tras descubrirlo y
encaonarlo, no lo delat. El narrador se propone
desentraar el secreto del enigmtico SnchezMazas, de su asombrosa aventura de guerra, pero
slo para acabar descubriendo, en un quiebro
inesperado, que el significado de esta historia se
encuentra donde menos poda esperarlo, porque
uno no encuentra lo que busca, sino lo que la
realidad le entrega.

Brings up the chaplain and he says a couple verses
She borrows some rings from the couple next door
