Delta Kappa Gamma - Alpha Delta Chapter

Minutes September 10, 2015

The Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met Thursday, September 10, 2015 at
Hand in Hand Primary School in Thomasville, GA. President Jan Westberg opened our meeting
and welcomed everyone. Mrs. Sheila Bullington gave a prayer for teachers as the school year
begins.
Reports: The minutes were presented. There was a motion, and a second, to accept the minutes
as presented. Deborah Fiveash gave the treasurers report. The balance in our chapter account
is $453.88 as of June 30. A printed treasurers report was available at the meeting.
Membership/Attendance: Twenty chapter members were in attendance.
Old Business: At our last meeting, Lisa Gilligan reported that we were identifying ideas for
non-dues revenue to help with budget items. We are still seeking ideas for fundraisers. One
idea is to host a local 5K run. Teresa Singletary offered to sell tickets for cakes. The cakes
can be available at the ticket-holders request.
Program: Our program focused on Camp Arrow and the impact it makes in the lives of children
with special needs. Sheila Bullington and Janet Campbell presented an overview of the camp.
Camp Arrow began in 1974 to provide children with special needs a camp experience. The camp
is held at Camp Tygart in Ray City and is offered to children throughout Georgia. Most children
are from the six county areas of Thomas, Grady, Colquitt, Berrien, Lowndes, and Dougherty.
We learned about the history and viewed a slide presentation of the children participating in
activities at the camp. Individuals and organizations provide funding for the camp through
donations. Individuals or groups may sponsor campers fees as well. Alpha Delta plans to donate
supplies and money for the summer 2016 camp dates in the spring.
Feature: Two members were feature winners at our September meeting. Susan Thompson was
the winner of the thermal dish, and Frances Lilly won the stackable containers.
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be held Thursday, November 12 and hosted by the Grady
County Schools. The location has yet to be verified.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned after singing our Delta Kappa
Gamma song.
Respectfully submitted,
Annette James

Chapter Presidents Message

Dear Alpha Delta Sisters,

Is this school year going by as quickly for you as it is for me? Its hard to believe that
our first quarter is already behind us! Our second year of the biennium for Alpha Delta chapter
has gotten off to a great start. We had two members from our chapter who were able to
attend the Psi State Executive Board meeting in Macon on September 26 th. Lisa Gilligan and I
were able to make that trek to Macon. We attended many helpful sessions that will hopefully
enable Alpha Delta to be a leading chapter in Psi State, which is our Georgia DKG organization.
Please remember our new Non-Dues Revenue Committee. This committee is working
diligently to gather ideas to help us raise funds so we will be able to give more scholarships to
beginning teachers. Please check out our website to see the list of all of our committees and
the members for each one (http://psialphadelta.weebly.com). Please feel to contact me if you
would like more information about your committee or be changed to a different one. Faith has
worked hard to update the website, and I truly appreciate all of her time and efforts in this
endeavor.
Our next meeting promises to be another exciting one, with our program presented by
Mr. Wallace Goodman from the Pebble Hill Plantation. We will meet on November 12 th in the
Grady Room at the Roddenberry Memorial Library in Cairo.
In addition, we will be initiating a new member who was unable to attend our first meeting
of this year and nominating possible new members for our chapter. Please consider speaking to a
colleague about DKG. I will never forget the response of one of the last friends to whom I
recommended for our society. She said, I had been hoping that someone would invite me to join
this group! How exciting!
My prayer is that all is going well for you personally and professionally. I look forward to
seeing each of you at our next meeting.
Jan Westberg, DKG
Alpha Delta Chapter President 2014-2016
