The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher activities and student
activities
Students are at their desks.
Teacher tells students that today they will be doing something special. They will be divided into groups
and they will be completing 5 different stations.
The teacher should have the stations already set out for them to see. While the students are in their
seats the teacher should walk around the room and explain each station.

After each station is explained the teacher should tell the students their groups and then dismiss them.
The teacher needs to remind students that although they will be working together at some stations they
need to keep their voices down.
The teacher should also explain that after the allotted time period she will ring the bell and that will
signal a station switch.
They will rotate stations in a clockwise motion.

Station 1- puzzle

In the back of the classroom in the carpet area there will be a fire safety puzzle set up. The students
should work together to complete as much of the puzzle as they can. They should not worry about
finishing it. Each group will put together a part of it.

Station 2- 911 simulation
At the reading table, the students will meet with the teacher to practice dialing 911. The teacher should
open by asking students what number they should call in an emergency. The teacher will explain that the
students will each take turns dialing 911 on the practice phone. The teacher will act as the operator and
ask them to state their emergency. The students will say that someone is in trouble or some other
emergency. The teacher will then ask then to state their location (their home address). The teacher will
challenge students to say their address from memory. However, if students need support the teacher
will have their address cards fro their reference. The teacher should model this process first for students.

Station 3- nook book
At the counter the students will each have a nook. The students can sit on the ground and they will each
work through the DK readers Fire Fighter book. The students will choose the read aloud option. This is
an individual work station.

Station 4 phone and address practice

At the white board, the students will practice their phone number and address. The students will be
using their hand sheets. There will be magnets on the board for them to use to hang up their sheets. At
this stations the students should be reminded that although they will be reciting the number and
address out loud they should make sure they are using their inside voices. They should also be reminded
this is an individual activity.

Station 5- Worksheet
At their desks the students should individually compete the fire fighter worksheet. Tell the students that
they may only use their crayons for this worksheet. Instruct the students to turn their worksheets into
the pink box when they are finished.

During the station work one teacher will be at the simulation station. The other teacher will be walking
around the room answering questions and making sure students stay on task.

* If there is not enough time for each group to get to each station stack the groups and rotations so that
the students get to the stations they need. For example if certain students need practice with their name
and address make sure they go to that station.

After all of the students have completed each station instruct them to clean up the station they are
currently at.
After they are cleaned up have then return to their seats.
Have the students turn to a neighbor and tell them what their favorite station was.
*assign one group of 3
