1) chronicle, telling about the day the students made their elections- narration about
the speeches, votations
The past month of September arrived with a huge load of excitement at the CCB. As
the school year started, it was again, the student`s responsibility to elect
democratically the new head boy, head girl and personero representatives for the
following year. There was a whole range of excellent candidates. So this is how the
day went:
For starters, all of the head boy, head girl and personero candidates got the
opportunity to work on their campaign for a few days and then they got to deliver
their speeches to all of Bach students. Reunited in an assembly, every one of the
candidates explained the reasons they aspired for this charge, their proposals, and
the reasons why they should be elected.
As the speeches progressed, there was a great variety of exciting proposals from
vending machines and Pancake Day to hire Cosculluela for the graduation party!
Directly after the speeches, all of the students gathered with their advisors to make
their elections, including the student council that would represent each class.
2) Then goes a more formal fragment, explaining who won in head boy/ head girl/
personero. Information about their proposals
Once the elections were made, the votes were counted and by the end of the day
the results came out. For Head Boy & Head Girl charges, the elected candidates
were Martin Smit and Sofia Merizalde.
As for the Personero charge, Natalia Daza was elected along with her 11th grade
personera, Mariana Betancourt.
3) Interview with patricia and Reinaldo
As you may have noticed, most of the students found themselves troubled trying to
understand the mechanism used and the reasons for the final results obtained from
the elections, including the creation of a `Vice Head Boy`. Therefore, an interview
was carried out to the head of section Patricia Escobar and the advisor of the
student`s council (Reynaldo Muoz), in order to clarify which was the system that the
elections followed.
Which was the mechanism held for electing the head boy and head girl?
As the Manual de Convivencia indicates,
1) The students from grade 7 to grade 12 will elect the head boy and head girl
through the system of simple mayority and secret election. The elected candidates
will represent the student council
2) The candidates will be interviewed by the head master, head of section, and the
advisor of the student council.
3) The election will be determined by the following percentages: 60% comes from
the result of the student`s voting; 40% comes from the result of the interviews. (Only
the elected candidate in the interview will receive the 40% that will help determine
the final result).

Which was the criteria applied by you, Reynaldo and the principal to elect the
best candidate in the interviews?
We reviewed the proposals, how they were going to sustain them, how real were
those proposals and if they were looking to build community and working on behalf
of the school, and the students, of course, because when we talk about the school,
we talk about the students and everyone in the community.
What exactly happened with the head boy situation, leading you to name a
whole new charge in the student council?
That was a proposal that they did, it was not ours. That was a proposal that they
came up with in the meeting they had with Reynaldo, because they were both very
good candidates, but one had received votes from the students, and the other one
got a really good grade in the interview and his proposals. So they were good
candidates, and they came up with this agreement, which I thought was fantastic,
because it meant that both could participate and have a leading role in the school.
REYNALDO:
Cuales eran los factores mas importantes para tener en cuenta al elegir entre
los candidatos de head boy y head girl en las entrevistas?
Para la eleccin del head boy y head girl, yo creo que uno de los criterios mas
importantes fue el de su experiencia en liderazgo, la trayectoria que el estudiante
halla tenido en proyectos de diferente ndole de liderazgo, no necesariamente en el
consejo estudiantil sin en otros proyectos y tambin indiscutiblemente lo
relacionado con la parte del perfil del estudiante IB, que es un aspecto fundamental
porque el head boy y head girl es una persona que representa y es modelo de todos
los estudiantes en el colegio.

Taking these into account, In the head boy`s case, martin received a --% from
popular vote, and the 40% granted from the interview. On othe other hand, Sofia
received the majority of votes, representing a --% of the totality, but she wasnt
granted the 40% from the interview.
WHAT IS EXPECTED/ WORDS FROM PATRICIA, REYNALDO AND THE
ELECTED CANDIDATES
Qu crees que van a lograr los candidatos que fueron elegidos este ao?
Tenemos mucha confianza indiscutiblemente en Sofia y en Martin, que han hecho
un muy buen plan de trabajo y unas propuestas muy interesantes. Hay un equipo de
representantes con un perfil muy alto, en trminos de liderazgo. Yo pienso que mas
que ellos, va a ser un trabajo en equipo, donde ellos van a ser los que van a liderar
el proceso, pero yo creo en general que hay muy buenas expectativas respecto al
trabajo de este ao
Finally, what do you believe this year`s elected candidates will accomplish?
I really hope that they will be able to fulfil with their plans, because usually, what he
have had In the past is that the candidates really work hard in their campaigns but
find it very difficult to accomplish everything that they had said they were going to do.
So this year, what I really want is to be able to give them support so they can
achieve what they want, especially because I think that the proposals this year are
very good, because they`re focused more in working as a community; the benefit for
the students, and being able to work together with the administration and the

students, which I think is very important. I just hope that they can fulfil everything that
they have promised. I know that these candidates worked hard, so I hope that Ill be
able to support them so they can achieve what they want to achieve

Concerning the new role of
vice head boy, I believe
that it is a great opportunity to
work with one of my
greatest
companions

friends Jose Luis Parra. I
would also like to mention the
outstanding
campaign
that Parra culminated, he is a role model to the dedication that we must put into
everything that we do. Once again, I look forward to working very hard with Jose to
make this years head boy section an efficient and results-oriented position.
Which are your expectations for the following year?
This year I really look forward to taking on new projects. With Sofia
we are planning to do great projects that will certainly arouse the
interest of the entire section. The biggest obstacle I believe that we
have to face this year is our shortcoming school spirit. Over time
we seem to have lost all of our energy, this is precisely what we
want to prevent this year; we look forward to finding the drive in
each student in order to build upon it and create a more enriching
CCB community.

What would you like to say to the section and to everyone that voted for you?
Being head girl has always been my dream. I am very grateful to everyone who
voted for me. I never expected to get all the votes I got, if it wasnt for all the votes I
got I would not be head girl, I owe everything to the students.
I believe I could bring a positive contribution to the section and the student council. I
really love my school and I want to be able to help in the well being of the section
throughout the year.
Which are your expectations for the following year?
I expect an exciting year full of memories and fun activities. I want to make ideas
become a reality. I have a wide variety of proposals that will hopefully leave a mark

on the section after I graduate. With the help of the student council and the students
we will make this year one to remember.
NATALIA
What would you like to say to the section and to everyone that
voted for you?
I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and gave me
their trust with their vote. It has been a real honor to represent
all of us, the students and i promise you wont regret it. I am
giving all my time and effort to create new proposals for this
year's group of personeros who will be working really hard to
make the school's environment better and safer.
How do you feel about having a partner in 11th grade by your
side?
It has been great having mariana by my side. She has been an
incredible partner and has helped me so much with everything.
Being personera has a lot of jobs, tasks and really hard work
plus all the academic charge 12 grade requires so it is great to
have someone i can trust and be sure she will do her best at her
job as vice personera
Which are your expectations for the following year?
My expectations for the upcoming year are a lot! But what
concerns to my job as personera in school i expect to see
changes in the way we relate as students with each other and with teachers, i want
to leave a mark in school, i want to help others and change students perspective of
what a personero really is.
