Reflective Thinking and Writing and Evidence of Proficiency

SLO 3.1: Diverse Students: The candidate demonstrates an understanding of how

students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional
opportunities that encourage empathetic, culturally relevant engagement in
learning supporting the belief that all children can benefit from an education

Relevance:
To demonstrate my understanding of SLO 3.1 and how students differ in their
approaches to learning and create instructional opportunities that encourage
empathetic, culturally relevant engagement in learning supporting the belief that all
children can benefit from an education; I located and saved a website where
students can take virtual fieldtrips to countries that will be represented in the
classroom.
Significance:
Since I started the teaching credential program I have learned a great deal about
students from various cultures. This information helped and guided me toward
creating successful lessons that I knew would both engage and intrigue various
learners since I mixed in various types of lesson models and strategies to reach
them all. I believe that every child has a basic right to a great public school with a
qualified and caring staff, including educators who look like them, who share similar
cultural experiences, and who can serve as role models demonstrating that
education and achievement are things to be respected and expected from their
teachers.
Link to Theory:
I believe that education is one of the most imperative things that all of us can
partake in. I participated in a class that allowed us to do research on Mindset. Part
of the requirement in this course was to reflect after each lesson. Reflecting after
every lesson really helped me process what I was doing right, while learning to
understand why something I had planned did not go as smoothly as thought, as well
as what went well. This experience correlated with Blooms Taxonomy, which is one
of the most important learning theories. Understanding that taxonomy and
classification are synonymous helps dispel uneasiness with the term. Learning,
teaching, identifying educational goals, and thinking can all be complicated
concepts interwoven in an intricate web. However, Bloom was completed this task
by diligently demystifying these concepts and untangling this web.
Next Professional Actions:
This credential program has significantly developed my skills at being a reflective
thinker and processor of what I have implemented in my lessons, as well as in my
professional career as an educator. My next steps after this course is to incorporate
these researched based strategies into my own classroom, so I will be able to
exhibit and promote motivation, critical thinking, and problem solving for my
students. I will continue to be reflective of what succeeded and what needs
improvement. I will seek out professional development so that I may continue to
grow as an educator.
