Moderate Partys position on Climate Change

We the members of the Moderate Party have reached the consensus that climate change is
real due to there being overwhelming evidence supporting its existence. As of now, multiple
organizations both national and international have also agreed that currently, humans are
contributing to this change by releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a
powerful greenhouse gas that has already warmed the planet, and with more being released every
day, the planet will continue to warm and due to this warming, people across the world and in the
US shall start feeling negative effects due to this climate change and if actions are not taken,
lives will be lost.
With this issue, we believe that actions should be taken that will help slow down or stop
the climate change while not placing a large financial burden upon the citizens of the United
States while creating jobs in environmental occupations. Because of this, we have done research
and have discussed both the evidence and our possible solutions to climate change. These points
of data are displayed below.
Evidence:

Since the late 19th century, the average temperature of the Earth has risen 1.5 degrees

Fahrenheit (Kunzig, NatGeo Nov. 2015)

In the last century, the global sea level has risen 6.7 inches (NASA. gov).
The Antarctic ice sheet has been losing an average of 134 billion metric tons of ice per

year since 2002 (NASA. Gov)

The Arctic Ice sheet has been losing an average of 287 billion metric tons a year

(NASA. gov).
As of October 2015, that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen to 398.29 parts

per million (NOAA. Gov)

The acidity of the ocean surface has increased by 30 percent due to the absorption of
carbon dioxide.

Along with this evidence, the current rise in carbon dioxide has occurred while humans
have been industrialized and have released carbon dioxide through burning fossil fuels
(NASA. gov).

Proposed solutions: We believe that with solving climate change, the solution would be to make
subtle changes that have little to no effect on the US capitalistic economy.

Residents should replace their incandescent bulbs with fluorescent or Light Emitting
Diode (LED) bulbs, which last longer and use less energy. Thus are more cost effective

than incandescent bulbs (EPA. Gov Change Five Lights)

Energy efficient cars should be made more available to the public to help lower prices of
the cars and lower carbon dioxide emissions on the roads (EPA.Gov Purchase a fuel

efficient, low greenhouse vehicle)

People should also be encouraged to have compost heaps in objects such as flower beds
and gardens. This reduces the amount of trash emerging from the home while improving
the quality of the soil in an action that requires no money for the disposal (EPA. Gov Be
green in your yard).

With these suggested solutions, we believe that the nation does not have to go through a
renewable energy revolution, yet. However, the actions stated above should help prepare people
for the transition into renewables in that with the reduction of energy consumption, US carbon
dioxide emissions should decrease from the public sector. Though, with an increased popularity
in a greener nation we hope to see an improvement in the health of our energy sector in the
coming years.
