    From the Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator. This is a car that I did not drive for over a year. It was parked in my driveway the whole time, but in the State of CA, you have to opt-out of your license plates. When the tabs expire, you still to pay--even for a non-operational vehicle. License a car in CA and you have to pay until it leaves! What a scam! I've never lived in a state that does this. In other states, tabs are like a magazine--when the subscription ends, you stop receiving issues--or in the case of tabs, you're no longer legal. California is a tax disaster.
