Objectives
Objectives correspond with PA State Common Core Standards listed above (SWBAT)

SWBAT identify planets in our solar system and their basic characteristics.
SWBAT describe the earths place in the solar system that includes the sun (a star), planets, and many moons.
SWBAT integrate information from two texts on the same topic in order to demonstrate subject knowledge.

Lesson Introduction: (5-7 min)

Activities/Procedures: (25-30min)
Lesson Plans are conducive to student achievement and focus on PA State CC standards and objectives

Assign pairs of students a planet to construct

Have each pair do research to find out what place their planet is
Have students line up in the correct order with their planets
Teach the acronym for remembering the planet order
Go into the hallway, toilet paper lengths will be handed out to each group.
Take turns laying down their toilet paper and placing their planet down at the end.

Closing& Assessment: (5-7 min)


(Restate purpose & assess comprehension; met objectives?)

Have students make a bar graph in their notebooks representing the distances each planet is away from the sun
Check each bar graph when students are finished and make one big class graph to hang in the room
For homework, write 2 facts about the planet they were assigned and write out the acronym 3 times
