Ancient Arab Empire Traveling Journal Project

You are traveling back in time to the Arab Empire of days gone by. On
your journey you will travel to three major cities and take in all of the
cultural sites, foods, and trade goods. You will experience different
modes of transportation, languages, and religion.

Pre-write: Due __________________

Character Idea: Characters name, place of origin, reasons for
travel.
Choose Your Route: Make an outline of you're characters
journey. Include the three major cities you will visit in the Muslim
world. Sketch a map of your route.
Outline Your Entries: What will your four entries be about?
Submit to the teacher by the due date noted above.

Journal Entries:
Write from the perspective of a person from the ancient Muslim
world.
Entries must reflect your understanding of a the basic cultural
concepts for the time and place chosen: cultural sites, food, trade
goods, transportations, language, religion, etc.
Entries must be well-written and describe cultural sites and
geographic surroundings, including major physical features (rivers,
mountains, deserts) crossed, using rich sensory imagery.
Entries must be typed, double-spaced, and edited for
spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Entries must be either shared via Google Docs or, if a Word
Document, emailed as an attachment to the teacher.

 Labeled map including starting place, stops along your journey,

and your final destination.
Route must be clearly labeled and include accurate place
names for the time and places (including major physical features)
mentioned in the journal entries.
Map must include at least two illustrations/images, with
captions, that support the journal entries.

Works Cited and Research Process

Minimum of two sources. The textbook is an acceptable
source. (Wikipedia is not an acceptable source.)
Citations follow APA format. You may use the tools available
on our website. (Just listing the web address is NOT acceptable.)
Works cited should be turned in the same time you submit
your journal entries.
