Motivation
(Opening/
Introduction/
Engagement)

The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher activities and student
activities
Over the last few weeks, we have learned so much about energy! I want to see how much you actually
remember about energy. Thus, your science grade will be based on TWO things: 1) Your Mad Scientist
Energy Journals Did you really try your hardest during our experiments? 2) Your projects that you
present to the class.
Day 1: Present the project to students. On their own, students should work on completing three project
proposals, identifying the energy types in each. After their three ideas have been checked by the
teacher, students may choose to continue the project process with a partner. By the end of the day,
every student should know which project they will try to complete. Some students may run into
problems, thus defaulting to their second project choice!

4
days

Day 2: Students will have time to work on their projects. They need to have all their materials at school
by tomorrow. Teacher should share the grading rubric with the class.
Development
Day 3: Students will have time to work on their projects. By the end of the day, every student should
have a workable project. If their first idea failed, they need to have a backup ready by the end of the day.
Students should also have explanations written. They will use these when explaining their projects to the
class.
Day 4: Today, students will present their projects to the class! Each student or pair will get a maximum
of five minutes to share. ALTERNATIVE: Students could share in small groups to save time.

Closure

Who can remind me of the different types of energy about which we learned? When you tell me that
type of energy, I want to also hear a way that we see it in the world around us.
I am so proud of you all. I have watched you become real scientists during our energy unit! Way to go!!
