The
minimum
is
x=28.59,
which
corresponds
to
$2,639,000
as
a
cost
of
building
the
pipeline.
To
find
this
function,
I
used
trigonometric
identities
and
the
knowledge
of
difference
between
the
cost
of
building
on
BLM
land
and
on
Private
Ground.
By
creating
a
triangle
within
the
diagram,
I
was
able
to
use
the
characteristics
of
triangles
to
create
relationships
between
the
length
of
pipe
through
BLM
land
and
the
length
of
pipe
through
Private
Ground.
To
find
the
minimum
without
visually
using
the
graph,
I
take
the
derivative
of
the
cost
function
and
find
when
the
slope
is
equal
to
0.
