3.3.7A1. Define the basic features of a rock cycle.
3.3.1.A1. Observe, describe and sort earth materials. Compare the composition of
different soils.
I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):
The students third grade students will demonstrate their knowledge of the rock cycle by
completing the unit test.
II. Instructional Materials

III. Subject Matter/Content
A. Prerequisite skills
1. Knowledge about rocks this has all been taught this week
B. Key Vocabulary
This vocabulary has been taught in previous lessons.
1. 1. Molten liquefied by heat
2. Geode- a hollow concretionary or nodular stone often lined with
crystals.
3. Crystallization- the act or process of crystallizing
4. Atom- anything extremely small
5. Sedimentary- A rock that is formed by deposition of sediment
6. Metamorphic-pertaining to or exhibiting structural change or
metamorphic.
7. Igneous- produce under conditions involving intense heat, as rocks of
volcanic origin or rock crystallized from molten magma
8. Fossils- remains or impressions of prehistoric organism preserved in
petrified form as a mold or cast in rock.

C. Big Idea
What the rock cycle is, and all the different components of it.
D. Additional content
1.A cycle is a series of events that are repeated in the same order.
a. We know it is a cycle because it happens over and over.
2. Rock cycle
a. Rocks first start as sediments and turn into sedimentary rocks, after turn
into metamorphic because of heat and pressure. Then turning into igneous
rocks, this is due to melting and cooling. This cycle is repeated over and
over sometimes metamorphic rocks can turn into sedimentary and igneous
to metamorphic. (See attachment)
3. Sedimentary:
a. Sedimentary rocks are made up of sediments and can turn into
metamorphic rocks.
4. Metamorphica. Metamorphic rocks are created by heat and pressure and can become
sedimentary rocks because of weather and erosion or into igneous by
melting and cooling.
5. Igneousa. Igneous rocks are made because of melting and cooling of magma. They
can turn into metamorphic by heat and pressure or into sedimentary rocks
by weather and erosion.
IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
The teacher will play a music video from YouTube.
Linkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkGVE6wNAzo
B. Development
1.The teacher will remind the students that their unit test is today and they
are reviewing.
2. The teacher will hand out a
3.The teacher will now ask the students to clean up their desk so that they
can begin the test.
C. Closure
The teacher will tell the students to have a good weekend! Remember
Monday we will begin talking about outer space.

D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1.To accommodate Monica an ELL learner guided notes will be given in her
native language. So that important vocabulary will be understood.
2. Guided notes and detailed instructions will be provided to all students.
E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan
Formative
None today is the summative assessment
Summative
Unit test
V. Reflective Response
A. Report of Student Performance in Terms of Stated Objectives (Reflection on
student performance written after lesson is taught, includes remediation for
students who fail to meet acceptable level of achievement)
Remediation Plan
B. Personal Reflection
1.How can I better this unit for future teaching?
2. What is one thing that students seemed to struggle with?
