Outcomes: Students will develop knowledge through research and investigation of tokens used in Ancient History.
Students will also through research and working collaboratively, decide on material suitability for designing their final
project-to design, make and appraise tokens and a storage pouch.

LESSON STRUCTURE:

Introduction (Set):

Access to internet and computers for research
Instruct class that they will be required to work in their
groups as decided in the previous lesson, to investigate
tokens and symbols used many years ago in Egypt for
methods of payment.
Teaching Approaches
Students are required to be
seated quietly in their set groups,
ready for learning, waiting for
teacher instruction

Students use workbooks to
record information gathered.
Design Brief Stage 1 & 2
from lesson 3, to be displayed in
classroom
Allow students prior warning of
approximately 2-5 minutes,
when they need to be changing
over to Stage 2

DESIGN: STAGE 2
Students return to their desks to work on the Design elements
for their project.
Students required to provide sketches and notes of their
designs.
In workbooks, students need to identify as a group, what
material they will use to complete their Make process.
Students need to include questioning in their design process
such as:
-what is the best practical design to suit everyones needs
for the tokens?
-how can they be designed so they are easy to use?
-is it easy to design?
-will it break easy or is it designed to last a long time?
-is it easy to handle?
-is it easy to store and transport or carry?
