tools, to be displayed in the classroom.
9.20am
Access to internet and computers for research
Instruct class that they will be required to work in their
groups as decided in the previous lesson, to investigate
tokens and symbols used many years ago in Egypt for
methods of payment.

Students are required to spend half of the lesson time

designing plans for tokens, to be made in the next lesson.
Students also required to decide on a name for their group
Time
Main Content:
INVESTIGATE: STAGE 1
9.20
Students collaborate amongst their groups to decide on tasks.
To
Students use books and internet to complete research to
9.40
discover answers according to the PowerPoint Design Brief
presented in lesson 3:
-animals of Ancient Egypt
-crops, land or other agriculture in Egypt
-household items in Ancient Egypt
-pouches used to store tokens
Students also investigate materials that could be used. As
their teacher I would look for suggestions such as cardboard,
paper, salt dough, clay.
Investigation process also needs to explore questions such as:
-explore materials of choice do they break? How big are
they?
-what can students use that can be recycled?
-are the tokens expected to last a long or short time?
-can tokens be made from something that grows?
-is it cheap to design?
-is the product easy to obtain?
-is it safe to use?
-is it environmentally friendly?
-would it be culturally acceptable?

Teaching Approaches
Students are required to be
seated quietly in their set groups,
ready for learning, waiting for
teacher instruction

Teaching Approaches
Students use workbooks to
record information gathered.
Design Brief Stage 1 & 2

DESIGN: STAGE 2
Students return to their desks to work on the Design elements
for their project.
Students required to provide sketches and notes of their
designs.
In workbooks, students need to identify as a group, what
material they will use to complete their Make process.
Students need to include questioning in their design process
such as:
-what is the best practical design to suit everyones needs
for the tokens?
-how can they be designed so they are easy to use?
-is it easy to design?
-will it break easy or is it designed to last a long time?
-is it easy to handle?
-is it easy to store and transport or carry?
