Fire guts 300 slum dwellings in Delhi

According to the police, one person sustained minor injuries in the incident.
A massive fire in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri during the wee hours of Monday gutted around 300 'jhuggis' (slum dwellings). According to the
police, one person sustained minor injuries in the incident. The residents managed to rush out of their slum dwellings in time. According to
initial estimates, around 1,500 persons have been left homeless because of the fire.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered his officials to provide immediate relief to the victims and urged his party volunteers to help
them.

The blaze was reported around 2 am on Monday. The fire department rushed 28 fire temders to the spot. The flames were brought under
control by 4 am and the cooling process initiated after that, said a senior fire officer.
The fire spread quickly because of the presence of plastic, wood and paper in the shanties. Much of the residents of the slum deal in scrap
materials.
The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by short circuit. Investigations into the exact cause is underway though.
