ISM Interviews: Diana Hejtmanek and Elizabeth Arceneaux

Mrs. Arceneaux

You cant save everyones life when it comes to medical care

To be a nurse you have to love what you do, cause you probably wont get
much recognition
Nurses need 20 CE credits annually
The nurse I interviewed was an ICU nurse, but she was also a PRN for a
plastic surgeons OR so she does have experience in surgery
She is very secure in her position
She sets her own salary
She puts in about the same amount of hours if not more than a doctor
She doesnt really need to advance in her field unless the hospitals start
requiring her to get a BSN

Dr. Kim MD (Anesthesiologist)

He thought he would be better off, as far as money

In reality, an anesthesiologist works more out of their residency
Way more busy than he had expected but without as much compensation
than he had expected
In just a five day work week, he may work around 60+ hours and then add
hours for meetings and the like and it can get up to 75 hours a week (not
including weekends).
The only benefit of becoming a doctor is the job security
He does not plan on advancing in his field
