1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
Fantasies Most people see whats on TV.
Everyone thinks that litigation only happens in court.
Being a lawyer is glamorous and isnt stressful.
You only have one client at a time.

Realities The court seen on TV is less than 10% of what you do as a lawyer.
Go to court 3-4 times a week depending on how many clients you have at the time but its not
litigating
Being a lawyer is super stressful and gets more stressful as you have more clients
Requires a certain type of person to be a lawyer and if you dont have what it takes you wont
make it.

2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?

JD degree Juris Doctor Degree- required to practice law in any state
Must have a Bachelors degree any anything as an undergraduate degree
Mentor has a Bachelors degree in Business
Law school is normally 3 years depending on the time it takes to pass the BAR

Continuous training is required


Must have 15-20 hours of continuing education and go to seminars and conferences
She is also a judge and you must also have continuous education for that as well.
Being a judge requires you have to have normally 30 hours a year.
Can double dip between getting education hours for a lawyer and judge.
The continuous training can be in podcasts.
The BAR keeps up with it and they check up on it.
Its due on your birthday and they will warn you if you didnt reach it.

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
A normal day being a lawyer consists of signing warrants and as a judge she also does this.
Draw up legal documents
Take client phone call
Talk to other attorneys and interview witnesses.
4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
(job security)
Pretty secure.
Last week was 21 years of being an attorney
Recession proof
People get divorce a lot and will always be in need of an attorney.
The future of the field is increasing and there are more and more people graduating from law
school every day.
5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?

Lowest salary works for legal aid $40,000 a year maybe $50,00
Highest- %50,000 and above just depends on the people you work for.
6. What potential for growth is there in your field?
(growth potential)
As lawyers retire new ones can come in.
Stays steady due to everyone needing a lawyer

7. What made you pursue this career?
Working for a lawyer
Liked working as a legal assistant and thought about going to law school.
Legal secretary helped tremendously in law school
Very passionate about the field of law

8. What was the hardest part about law school? Was it worth it?

The first year was the hardest learning how to study and take tests
College is way different than law school.
More grades in college.
Law school one test pass or fail
That extends time to graduate.
Certain basic classes everyone has to take then you specify.
Fail too much your first year you fail out of law school
It was definitely worth it

9. What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?

Professionally being an elected official.


Since she is a judge
Every 4 years you are elected
March is the next election.
Lawyer wise it was passing the BAR

10. What is the hardest part about your career?

Dealing with stressful angry divorced clients.


Already mad before they walk through your door.
Try to calm them down by listening to them and giving them advice

11. How often do you see your clients?

A lot of times come in and talk about their case


However, its not necessary for them to come in.
They can communicate through phone calls and e-mails.
