BristowRunElementarySchoolislocatedinBristowVirginiaandispartofthePrince
WilliamCountyPublicSchoolsystem.Bristowislocatedinasuburbthatisabout30
milesfromWashingtonDCandhasmanygovernmentandmilitaryfamiliesaspartofits
community.Themedianhouseholdincomeintheareais$123,400,ascomparedtothe
statesat$61,882.Theschoolwasopenedin1998andserveschildreningrades
PreK5.
AsofJune2014BristowRunhas704studentsattending.Thereisonespecial
educationpreschoolclass,4kindergartenclassesand5classespergradelevelfirst
throughfifth.Theschoolsrace/ethnicitybreakdownis:57.4%white,14.2%hispanic,
10.5%Asian,9.6%AfricanAmerican,8.1%twoormore0.3%ofbothAmerican
Indian/AlaskanandPacificIslander/Hawaiian.Theschoolhas5SOLsubgroupsof
students,economicallydisadvantaged12.6%,ESOL11.9%,gifted(k5)35.5%,special
education12.9%.
CollectiondevelopmentforBristowRunwilltakeintoaccountthediversepopulation
andstrivetomeettheneedsofthedifferentinstructionallevelsandinterestofthe
students.Materialswillbecollectedthatencouragebothinformationalandresearch
useaswellasreadingforpleasure.
ThistechnicalservicesmanualwaswrittenbySabrinaTuckertoprovidepoliciesand
guidelinesfortheorganizationandprocessingoflibrarymaterials.
B.PhilosophyStatementoftheSchool
ThelibraryatBristowRunElementarySchoolstrivestoupholdthevisionandmissionof
theschoolbysupportingandenrichingthecurriculum,specialprogramsanddiverse
population,throughimplementationofprogramsandcollectiondevelopment.Inthe
librarywewillworktoensurethatallstudentshaveaccesstomaterialsontheir
instructionallevelandthatwillpeaktheirinterestandloveoflearning.Wewill
collaboratewithclassroomteacherstohelpenrichstudentslearningandhelpboth
teachersandstudentslearnhowtousethetechnologyavailabletothem.
C. PhilosophyStatementofLibrary
BristowRunLibraryVisionisforallstudentstobecomelifelongreadersandlearners,
criticalthinkersandresponsible,effectiveusersoftechnology.
BristowRunLibraryMissionistoprovideaccessforallstudentstoacomprehensive
collectionofprintandelectronicmaterials.Wewillalsoprovideintegratedfun
educationalactivitiestohelpstudentsthinkcriticallywhilelearningbothAASLstandards
aswellasVirginiaStandards.Wealsowanttoencouragecollaborationbetween,
librariansandteachers,aswellaslibrariansandtheparentstopartnerinstudent
learning.

ThelibraryatBristowRunElementaryisdedicatedtoensuringthatthematerialsinthe
libraryareorganizedinamannerthatallowsforpatronstoeasilyfindandaccessthe
materialsandinformationtheyareseeking.Thelibrarianswillinsuresthatinformation
iscollected,catalogedandprocessedinastandardizedmannertoensureaccess.
BristowRunisdedicatedtopreparingstudentsforthe21stcenturybyencouraging
inquiryandcriticalthinking.Providingeasyaccesstoinformationforthestudentsat
BristowRunencouragesstudentstoinquireandfindanswersthroughinformation
providedandcriticalthinking.
Bookswillbeorganizedinastandardizedmannermaterialswillbeprocessedusing

Allcirculationthroughoutthelibrarywillbetrackedwithcollectionsoftwarethatwillbe
analyzedtoensurematerialsarebeingusedandreplacedwithneeded.

BristowRunLibraryhasavastandvariedcollectionisbeingdevelopedtomeettheever
changingneedsofitspatrons.Materialsarecollectedinordertoensurethatthediverseneeds
ofthestudentsaremetandhelpenrichlearningandreadingofallstudents.Thelibraryalso
supportsthecurriculumbeingtaughtatalllevelsthroughouttheschoolandstrivestoensure
thereareadequatematerialsandinformationforthestudentsandteachers.BristowRunwants

2. ForeachitementertheMARCrecordintothedatabase.IftheMARCrecordis
providedbythevendorchecktherecord.Ifnorecordisprovidedsendthetitle
pageandcopyrightpagetothecentraloffice.TheywillsendtheMARCrecord

3. Preparethebookbyopeningitwiththespineplacedonthetable,openever
severalpagesandpushingthebookallthewayopengently.
4. Printoffboththebarcodeandspinelabelforthematerial.Thespinelabel
shouldbeplacedonthebottomofthespineandthebarcodeshouldbeplaced
onthebackofthebookparallelwiththespine.Usethe

5. StampeachbookwiththeBristowElementarySchoolLibrarystamponthe
bottomcornerofthetitlepage,lastpageandedgeofpagesifpossible.
