Student Reps
I got involved because I was invited. I have stayed involved because I enjoy getting
to help students. says Audrey Elsik, a junior from Midlothian, Texas. Audrey has
been involved since the fall 2013 semester when she did Get Connected. The SRC is
an organization under the umbrella of Student Support like Get Connected is.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) has a group of 30 or so volunteers who

come and volunteer their time once a week for two hours. The main goal of Student
Reps are to help the SRC in gathering as much data as possible so that the SRC can
propose changes to the university if possible. Occasionally the SRC will receive
assignments from various administrative councils to gather various feedback.
Brother Watson, the Full Time Coordinator over SRC says, Having the
communication between the administration and the students is very helpful. That is
what we are working to provide here is a way for both sides to be heard and
acknowledged.

The Student Reps who come and volunteer once a week go out and blitz, this is
when they go from door to door and talk with students. When the SRC is asked to
collect certain feedback then that becomes the focus for the night. Other times,
they are promoting various surveys that have been created to help with the
collection of feedback. The feedback that the SRC hopes to collect is all to further
promote the mission of BYU-Idaho and the improvement therein.

The SRC is similar to a Student Body organization on other college campuses. The
director of the council is the equivalent of a student body president but it was
decided that a different process was necessary. The current director for the fall 2015
semester, Gwynne Noel, says, The set-up of how directors are chosen is truly
inspired and it was wonderful to see those who are selected and to know that they
(or you) are there for a reason. Those interested in being director apply and
interview with all the Full-Time Coordinators who prayerfully come to a decision of
who should be the director. They do this for all the director positions each semester.
