I establish good eye contact with my class. I

do not talk over their heads, to the blackboard
or to just one individual.
If I tend to teach predominantly to one area of
the classroom, I am aware of this.
I make a conscious effort at all times to pay
attention to all students equally.
I divide my students into small groups in an
organized and principled manner.
I recognize that these groups should differ in
size and composition, varying with the

I consider the physical comfort of the room
such as heat and light.
When I need special materials or equipment, I
have them set up before the class begins.

My handwriting on the blackboard and /or

charts is legible from all locations in the
classroom. It is large enough to accommodate
students with vision impairments.
I speak loudly enough to be heard in all parts of
the classroom and I enunciate clearly.
I vary the exercises in class, alternating rapid
and slow paced activities to keep up maximum
interest level in the class.
I am prepared to give a variety of explanations,
models or descriptions, understanding that
one explanation may not be sufficient for all
students.
I help the students form working principles and
generalizations.
Students use new skills or concepts long
enough so that they are retained and thus future
application is possible.

I believe I did a good job speaking to the students and

giving all the students an opportunity to speak during the
lesson. I believe I called on all the students during
different parts of the lesson and engaged the students in
the learning, through my teaching. I did a small group
lesson with four students and organized them in a way
that I felt would best benefit open discussion and partner
discussions with their elbow partner. Both sets of
partners were varying in ability, allowing for a deeper
and enriched learning environment for both students.

Notes:
I seated the seated facing the reading and activities that
proceeded. I believe the classroom temperature and
lighting was conducive to learning and I had the
materials need for the lesson, placed on the table and
ready for the students to use. I believe the students were
comfortable in their learning environment.

Notes:
My use of chart paper was legible and large enough for
all the students to see and read. I spoke loudly
throughout the entire lesson and enunciated my words
clearly. I kept the pace of my lesson plan consistent and
the students followed suit. I use great explanations and
modeled what I wanted the students to do. I many
examples throughout I lesson and praised students for
giving correct examples throughout the lesson. I did help
the students form working principles and generalizations
throughout the lesson plan. Application in the future
should be applicable to these students because they
seemed to understand the rhyming words and associated
them to other aspects of reading/learning. I gave the
students plenty of time to organize their thoughts about
the topics before probing for answers. I think I did a
good job structuring my questions and helping the
students come to an answer if they were confusing or

I plan for "thinking time for my students so

they can organize their thoughts and plan what
they are going to say or do.

Diversity
D. Culture and Adjustment
o I am aware that cultural differences affect the
learning situation.
o I keep the cultural background(s) of my
students in mind when planning daily activities
and am aware of culture misunderstandings
which might arise from the activities I choose.
o I work for an atmosphere of understanding and
mutual respect.
o I tell students when they have done well, but I
don't let praise become mechanical.
o My activites are varied, some more visual,
aural, oral and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize
learning in each of these areas.

Professionalism
B. Self-concepts
I treat my students with the same respect that I expect
them to show me.
I plan "one-centred" activities which give all students
an opportunity at some point to feel
important and accepted.
C. Aptitude and Perception
I am aware that my students learn differently.
My exercises are varied, some ore visual, aural, oral
and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize learning in each
of these areas.
I finish my class period in a way which will review
the new concepts presented during the class period. My
students can immediately evaluate their understanding of
those concepts.
III. The Activity
A. Interaction
The activities maximize student involvement.
The activities are organized to insure a high success
rate, leaving enough room for error tomake the activity

unsure. I believe my overall presentation of the lesson

was successful with only a few slight changes in the
future when teaching this particular lesson plan.

Notes:
Prior to the lesson, I thought about the students who
would be in the small group lesson and the cultural
differences between the students. I continually tell the
students they are doing well, when they are and give
constructive criticism when necessary. I praise the
students for doing a good job and following directions.
My activities are visual, oral, and kinesthetic. I provided
models for the students and showed them what I
expected throughout the lesson plan. I believe the
students understood what was expected of them prior to
the assessment and didnt need clarification on what was
expected.

I treat all the students in my small group with

respect and the lesson I planned focused on onecentered opportunities to make every student feels
important at some point in the lesson. I am aware
that each one of the students learns differently and
I varied my materials for their learning needs to be
met. I finished the lesson with a review of what we
learned for the day and questioned the students on
rhyming words and asked for examples other than
what was mentioned during the lesson plan. My
students new the answers and helped each other
out, which was great to see. The activities did
maximize student involvement: coming to board
and writing on chart, working with partner, etc. The
activities were organized and did insure high
success. Some of the rhyming words where
challenging for the students and were new words
that they did not know. The learning objective was
continued throughout the entire lesson and stayed
focused. I made the content relevant to the

I believe the students enjoyed the lesson and
achieved the learning target/objective.
