Certified Teacher Grades 2-6 June 4, 2016 Wanda Mote, Principal Woodland Elementary School 1730 Gibbs Shoals Rd, Greer SC 29650 While student teaching at Woodland Elementary School this year, I learned that my grandfather, Dr. Herb Tyler, was a former professor of yours. He had an incredible amount of positive commentary about you and suggested that I apply for a position at your school. I would like to take advantage of that opportunity. As a certified teacher in grades 2-6, with an excellent academic record and practical experience working with students, I make a strong candidate for this position. I recently graduated from North Greenville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. During my time at North Greenville, I had the opportunity to work in the classroom with both large and small groups of students. Small groups provided me with the opportunity to see individual student growth throughout my time. During my multiple field experiences at Woodland, I enjoyed getting the opportunity to work with second grade students in Mrs. Carol Scudders class. Throughout my time, I sharpened my ability to plan challenging, engaging lessons and grew in my understanding of the needs of students in my class. I learned a tremendous amount about the culture of Woodland, where the faculty and staff develop a positive, student-centered environment while seeking to develop life-long learners and productive citizens in a global society. Woodland always begins with the end in mind and strives to help students bring out the leader within him or her. This background would obviously prove beneficial to anyone pursuing a teaching position within the school. Outside of my practicum experiences, I had the opportunity to serve in a kindergarten classroom at a local elementary school. I volunteered once a week for the majority of one academic semester. During my time, I was able to work with small groups of students on reading skills and even had the chance to teach a math lesson to the whole class. This was my first true experience in the classroom. I learned a tremendous amount that prepared me for future endeavors as an educator. I hope to meet with you at the earliest convenience so we can discuss how I might be able to contribute to the success of Woodland Elementary School and its students. Please contact me through email at mbarretttyler@gmail.com or by phone at (864) 901-5465. I look forward to speaking with you soon, and thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely,
