Cells and

Organelles

--Eukaryotic Cells- Two types of Eukaryotic

Cells?
Plant and Animal

These two types have many

organelles in common, but
they also have different ones

Cell Membrane
Whats the function of the cell
membrane?
Controls what comes into and
out of a cell
Found in ALL cells

How can I remember it?

Members only can come and
go

Cell Wall
Whats the description of the
cell wall?
Ridged outer layer of a plant cell
Plants and Algae- cell wall made
of cellulose
Fungi- cell wall made of chitin

How can I remember it?

Im a brick wall

Cytoplasm
Whats the description
of cytoplasm?
Gel-like fluid where the
organelles are found

How can I remember it?

Sail through my plasma

Cytoskeleton

Web of proteins in the

cytoplasm

Mitochondria
What is the function of mitochondria?
Produces the energy a cell needs to carry out its function
Main power source of a cell
Covered by two membranes

How can I remember it?

I am a mighty power house.

Lysosome
Whats the function of the lysosome?
Uses chemicals to break down food and worn out cell parts

How can I remember it?

I clean things up! (hint: Lysol)

Vacuoles
What is the function of the vacuole?
Stores food, water, wastes, and other materials

How can I remember it?

Ill store anything! (Hint: Vacuum Bags)

Golgi Bodies/Complex
What is the function of the Golgi
Bodies?
Receives proteins and materials from the
Endoplasmic Reticulum, packages them,
and distributes them
Vesicle- small sac that contains materials
in eukaryotic cells

How can I remember this?

Im a GOLden packer

Chloroplasts
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
Captures energy from the sunlight and uses it to produce food
in a plant cell

How can I remember this?

Make me something sweet to eat

Endoplasmic Reticulum
What is the function/description of the
endoplasmic reticulum?
Has passageways that carry proteins and
other materials from one part of the cell to
another
Rough ER- covered in ribosomes
Smooth ER

How can I remember it?

Im a transportER.

Ribosomes
What is the function/description of the ribosomes?
Assembles amino acids to create proteins
Smallest organelle no membrane

How can I remember it?

I make some nice proteins.

Nucleus
What is the function of the
nucleus?
Contains DNA, which controls the
functions of the cell and production
of proteins

How can I remember this?

Im the control center

Nucleolus
What Is the function/description of the nucleolus?
Found inside the nucleus and produces ribosomes

How can I remember it?

Im in control of the number of ribos.

Chromatin
What is the function/description of the
chromatin?
Tiny strands inside the nucleus that contain
instructions for directing the cells functions

How can I remember it?

Im a tin of information.
