Reflection 1
Student Learning Objective:
This week I designed my objectives based on manipulative development skills. My
psychomotor objectives were based on the students having a seventy percent success rate when it
comes to the students being able to demonstrate the cues of the skill. When it came to the
cognitive aspect of the learning objective, I perceived that each student would understand the
difference between a static stretch and a dynamic stretch while being able to provide an example
of each with a ninety percent accuracy rate. Students were also expected to be able to explain
the importance of raising their heart rates with an eighty fie percent accuracy rate. As for the
students heart rate fitness objective, it was perceived that students would be able to remain
actively engaged in moderate to vigorous activity at least fifty percent of the time. However, I
was unable to accomplish my learning objectives that I had set for my class.
Based on my moderate to vigorous activity I was unable to reach my goal of fifty percent.
Out of one hundred and twelve intervals, I was only able to accomplish one five hundred and
fifty five seconds of activity. That is only nine minutes and twenty five seconds. Even though
that was close, unfortunately, it was not close enough. I spent two hundred and twenty five
seconds managing the class. That was not bad because that was only three minutes and seventy

five seconds. However, I spent too much time instructing the class on the activity. I had a total of
nine hundred seconds of instruction time, which is fifteen minutes. That is the goal set for
activity. Hopefully I can switch the numbers around next week or at least get closer to my goal.
If I had to alter my lesson plan, I would have spent a week teaching the class one dance
versus teaching them two different dances in a week. The last dance that I attempted to teach the
class was a little more difficult than the first dance. This was probably because it was nothing
that was heard on the radio as opposed to the dance that was taught on Monday. By doing so, it
would give the students more time to practice the dance and I would be able to break up the cues
of the skill, rather than feeding the students so much information at one time.
Creating a Quality Learning Environment:
Even though I do not feel as though the dance was great, overall, I feel as

though I was successful with addressing the four criteria of the learning experience. I was able to
assist with improving their motor and manipulative skills for their dance performance. This
dance activity was appropriate for this age level and it covered the state and NASPE content
standards. While designing this lesson, I tried to make sure that students were provided
maximum practice time. However, after reviewing the data, I noticed that there were a few things
that I could have done differently so that each student could become more engaged within the
activity. It was documented that my students were only active for five hundred and fifty five
seconds which was far below the goal of fifty percent MVPA. In order to reach my goal, next
time I could have my students to demonstrate each step rather than going through the steps then
having my students to practice. This will allow more practice time for my students.

Strengths and Weaknesses in Pedagogical Skill Set:

During this activity, I was very energetic. I did not move around the perimeter of the class
much. I spent most of my time in front of the class instructing and demonstrating the dance steps.
I felt as though the instructions became a little complicated especially when they were asked to
move in a certain direction. Instead of the students moving in the right direction, they mirrored
me, which made half them move in the wrong direction. However, I should have invited my ETs
to assist me with teaching the class. This way I would have been able to assess my students while
they were practicing the COTS to the dance. During the lesson I used polly spots to keep
students aware of their spatial awareness. After the activity was over, the students picked up the
polly spots and placed them in the equipment bag and had a seat on the white line.
Recommendations for Next Session:
During this week, I felt as though my strongest aspect of teaching was how I handle my
classroom management. Even though this was the first day, my students gave me the up most
respect. I have always been told that when I speak I am very assertive which can sometimes be a
good thing because I demand respect when I speak. I also feel as though one of the teaching
skills that I did well was designing a lesson plan allowing the students to get to know one
another. Sometimes dancing can bring out a persons personality. It can sometimes bring those
who are shy out of their shells, so to speak. I also felt as though by me showing the students how
energized I was when it came to teaching allowed them to remain interested in the dance unit. I
have always felt that a teachers energy mean so much when trying to teach a lesson.
Next week I will allow my ETs to assist me with providing assistance to my students.
This will allow me to assess my students, making sure they are conducting the cues of the skill

properly. I will also try to make sure I give myself a breather when or if I start to feel
overwhelmed. I can do this by providing water breaks. I will also try to allow my students to
have more activity time by trying to shorten the instruction time.
