Overview

This was my 8th and final week with my 4th/ 5th graders at Tiger Pride.
On Tuesday I taught the students how to throw a Frisbee. This was my last
teach and for this lesson I only need poly spots and 10 Frisbees. My lesson
began with a game of virus tag, which got all the students to participate and
get their heart rates elevated. The lesson was followed with Frisbee partner
passing. On Thursday, we had an ET take over day where Brandi taught the
class. She had a fun game of clean your room and then played capture the
flag. Overall she did a great job with the kids and will do a great job when
she becomes on the ET team.
Student Learning Objectives
My student learning objectives for psychomotor were Students will be
able to execute the backhand Frisbee throw directly to their partner 7 out of 10 times and not
allow the Frisbee to drop on the ground, for cognitive: Students will be able recite the cues of the
skill with 90% accuracy, For H-R Fitness (H): SWBAT engage in MVPA at least 60% of the
time. I believe that in my lesson I was able to achieve all the learning objective. For H-R fitness,
my students were engaged in the activity for 20 minutes, which is over 50 percent of the time.
For the affective, students are excited, engaged, and get competitive during the competition
portion when re watching the video. From observing the lesson, most of the students understood
the cues of the skill and followed them properly. When they would follow the COTS, the Frisbee
throw was very accurate to their partner. A few of the students struggled when releasing the
Frisbee in a straight line. I felt that I did a good job walking around to all the pairs giving
individuals feedback and made sure they were having a good time.

Quality Learning Environment

I definitely believe I address all the four criteria for a learning experience but should have
had the lesson continue on for a few more minutes. I gave the students a lot of time practicing
with their partners and giving them tasks to see if they can improve their skill level at an
appropriate level. I also felt that I addressed the three learning domains in various parts of my
lesson. I feel that if I had more poly spots, I could have laid them out as the students were
becoming more advanced with the skill. At the end, I could have played more competition games
to extend the lesson longer.
My total activity time was 20 minutes. I felt that I was on time with my class schedule
but when I was looking at my MVPA I had a total of 26 minutes of class time. I thought that I did
a good job going over the cues of the skill with the students and teaching them how to catch the
Frisbee. At the end I had the students competing in competitions to practice their accuracy. I had
the students competing allowed them to advance their skills, challenge the students to work
under some pressure to try to compete at a higher level. The first competition was to see how
many throws the students could get in a row with their partner without
letting it drop on the ground for a certain amount of time. The second
challenge Every time the students catch the Frisbee they get to take a step
back to extend the distance. If they drop the Frisbee they take a step closer
together. Only one side moves. Last challenge, was to decide which pair
could last the longest playing catch without dropping the Frisbee. Last pair
standing would win the game. I moved the poly spots further back to make it
more difficult and challenge their accuracy skills.

Strengths & Weaknesses

From the video and looking at the comments from my systematic
observation, I thought I did a great job with movement and stayed around
the outside keeping my body facing the students the whole lesson. I was able
to talk to each group and almost each individual at least once if not more to
provide feedback or positive reinforcement. It was important I continued to
reinforce the cues for accurate passing. When I extended the passing I
provided them the cues while they were practicing: Shoulder to Target, Curl, Step,
Wipe the Table and for catching the Frisbee it was a pancake or alligator arms. By the end of the
lesson they all seemed confident to verbally give the cues and demonstrate in front of the class.
I think that my instructions this week were a lot better than usual. I was able to have
student demonstration before I sent them off to the first skill. I had a lot of MVPA because I was
able to have students practice right away after the instructions were announced. I had three
different tasks that I was able to extend to have students practice for a period of the time. I had
my activities organized an instructions short and simple to make transitions simple. The
instruction and feedback was provided throughout the entire lesson. I always made sure to ask if
the students had any questions before sending them to the lesson. I didnt want them to have any
confusion. I still continue to use the word Perfect during the lesson and interaction with the
students.
I provided the students with positive reinforcement and corrective feedback. I tried to
have the students cheer for each other and their classmates when they were in competition.

Cheering helped the students stay engaged and work as a team to practice good sportsmanship. I
also provided corrective feedback to students like Anmarie who was releasing the Frisbee up in
the sky and not releasing the Frisbee flat, facing their target. I think I improved over the semester
providing corrective and positive feedback to all the students and not paying attention to a
certain group.
All the students participated and helped clean up all the equipment before the closure. I
felt my strengths for this week would definitely be my feedback to the students. I was able to
make corrective cues to students Frisbee throw. I was encouraging all students to not give up and
to keep on challenging themselves to try and catch as many passes as they could in the time
limit. I also walked around the lesson to watch all the students perform the skill and I encouraged
sportsmanship. I still need to have other words to use for my idiosyncrasies.
Recommendations for next session
This was the last week I had at Tiger Pride teaching these students. But
for next time, I need to start my lesson right on time because it cuts into
their activity time and I need to practice using other idiosyncrasies using the
word count of the word Perfect. I wish I had a baseline on how many times I
said the word perfect and great in the beginning compared to the end.
