Sport Pedagogy Lesson Plan Template (Elementary and Middle School)
Background Information
Teacher: Sheldon Simas

Date: Sept 30, 2015

School: Cleveland Elementary

Grade Level: 3rd Grade

Lesson Focus: This lesson focus is strictly on

# Of students: 20 Students
movement. The objective is to apply the passing and
catching of the frisbee while moving, like a game of
ultimate frisbee. Were not going to necessarily go all
the way with ultimate frisbee, this will be the last
lesson for frisbee. Ultimate frisbee will be reintroduced later in the future but for now we just want
to focus on the students being able to run, pass, and
catch and frisbee.
Equipment and Facilities: For this lesson its crucial
to utilize a large amount of space. The grass space is
good enough and/or black top space. Equipments
used for the lesson will be a minimum of 10 frisbees
and 12 cones.

Safety Considerations: The safety considerations falls

under the consideration for space. This will be the
introductory week with frisbee, so the third graders
will be more pruned to throw the frisbees with no
sense of control and/or direction. Having large
amounts of space away from the other groups will
prevent the chance of anyone getting hit by a frisbee.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: When students are talking
I will simply raise my hand to receive the students
attentions. The students will only receive one
warning, if and only if any student shows any
disrespect to the teachers and fellow classmates,
without hesitation they will be asked to sit out.
Determining the consequence for such behavior will
depend on how crucial the situation is.

Previously Learned Skills: The main lesson core

emphasizes the skills that are taught from the first part
of the lesson. Students will need to know the cues of
the skill in order to proceed into the main activity
portion of the lesson.
For this case the students will need to know how to
properly back hand throw and/or forehand throw a
frisbee. The only addition is movement, where
students will run in a certain pattern while a fellow
student passes the frisbee the them.

Teaching Strategy: The main strategies used are

Whole-Part-Whole and Active Learning.
(III)

Student
Objectives:

Academic Language: Students will be introduced to

the understanding of the phrase, cues of the skill.
From there the students will be able to perform
different sets of skills just based of the COTS. The
main goal is for the students to identify all the
different components that go into a skill. (I, II, IV)

Psychomotor (P): The students will be in two separate groups. Within each group the
students will split in two lines determining who is passing and who is running for the
pass. The students will alternate lines so that they all get a lot of action for both sides.
Cognitive (C): Before we begin the activity the students will go through a quick check for
understanding. After the cues of the skill have been provided and demonstrated to the
students, they will be asked to repeat what the cues of the skill were.
H-R Fitness (H): The beginning of the lesson will include a locomotor based activity such
as Red light, Green light.

CALIFORNIA PHYSICAL EDUCATION MODEL CONTENT STANDARDS:

I. Demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
II.Demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles and strategies that apply to the learning and
performance of physical activities.

IV.Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles and strategies
that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.

NASPE PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT STANDARDS a physically literate person:

1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical

Describe the pre-class arrangement

Teacher: The teacher will be waiting for the students will their activities will take place.
Students: The students will gather around the teacher where he/she is standing. They are given the
option to either sit or stand, as long as their attention is on the teacher.
Equipment: The equipment will be all set up prior to the students arrival. The cones will be marking the
boundaries for the Red light, Green light game.

Instant Activity:
minutes The instant activity is quite a familiar
game to everyone. We are going to start
off the lesson will a locomotor based
game such as Red light, Green light.
The game is fairly self-explanatory; redlight will mean stop, yellow-light will
mean walk, and finally green-light will
mean run.
2-3
Transition:
minutes After the instant activity the students will
be given a short water break before the
beginning of the lesson content. They
will meet back where the teacher is for
further instruction.

Set Induction:
minutes The teacher will start off the lesson by
review. With this the teacher can
determine whether or no the students
remembered the previous lesson content.
The teacher will do a quick check for
understanding with the students on the
back hand throw. With that, then the
teacher will review the COTS for the
forehand throw, being that its the throw
students are having more difficulties with.
Purpose:
Explain to the students that reason as to
why we learn step by step is all because
they will be assessed towards the end of
the content.

NASPE 1,2, &3

Start/Stop Signals:
The main technique
used will be the
raising of the hand.
The teacher will
simply raise their
hand saying raise
your hand if you can
hear me. Basically
repeat that until all
student cooperate. If
all else fails then the
teacher will have to
raise their voice to
promote authority
over the students.
Grouping Strategies:
The teacher will
allow free-choice for
partners. The
students will be given
no more then 30
seconds to find a
partner or they will
be partnered by the
teacher.

Transition :
The teacher will randomly select the
groups in which the students will
participate in. There are twenty students
in the class so it would originally be ten
per-group.

Lesson Core - Task 1:
Diagram Task 1
minutes Within their respected groups, the students
will begin by naturally throwing and
catching the frisbee. However, the
students will also have to be on the move
in order to make this happen. There will
be two groups of ten students and within
those two groups, the kids will split into
two smaller groups. There will be two
lines per-group, one line will be for
running while the other is for passing.
There will be cones set up in a L shape
pattern in which the students will run in
order to receive the frisbee.
Demonstration Plan:
The teacher will use a volunteer to show
the students how to successfully perform
the activity objectives. While the teacher
is explaining the activity objective, the
volunteer will run in the L pattern, to
which the teacher will finish off by
passing the frisbee to he/she.
Questions to Check Understanding
What is the proper grip for the back-hand
throw?
How close do the elbows need to be to the
body?

minutes Students will be given a quick water break
between lessons. After their break they
will then be debriefed on the next activity.

Common Errors Task 1:
1. Proper body position for
performing the skill.
2. Students not flicking the
wrist.
3. Students possibly not running
in the right pattern

Questions to Check Understanding
If there are any students who are not
focussed while the teacher is providing
them with instruction, then the teacher
will simply call on that specific student to
ask them to simply repeat what the
instructions were. If he or she fail to
answer the question it only shows that
they were paying attention.
Adaptations :
Students will more then likely continue
practicing the backhand throw due to the
difficulty in the forehand throw. The
