Section A:
http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/mcah/Documents/MO-TeenBirthsinCalifornia.pdf (large file)
Starting on page 87 in the document, there are teen birth rates for San Bernardino county. Look
at the different MSSAs and comment on what you notice.
1. I noticed there was a great amount of birth in USMC combat training center. The color is a
dark red for teen birthrate there. In the overall years of birthrate between 2000-2001 and 20042005, it has increased by a thousand, that is a lot of teen birthrates to happen. Although some
counties have a decrease in birthrate it is still based on the area of living that cause more or less
birthrate. Another interesting thing I noticed is that the ethnicity with the most birthrates is
Latinas/ Hispanics, it goes to show that we should be observing that culture more and find out
why this is happening.

Section B:
Read this article:
http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/FB-Unintended-Pregnancy-US.html
Discuss at least 5 interesting facts that you learned from this article.
1. Currently, about half (51%) of the 6.6 million pregnancies in the United States each year
(3.4 million) are unintended
2. More than one in 10 single men indicated that they did not know about the pregnancy
until after the child was born. Among single men aware of the pregnancy, nearly three out
of four births were reported as unintended
3. Unintended pregnancy rates are highest among poor and low-income women, women
aged 1824, cohabiting women and minority women

4. States with the highest unintended pregnancy rates in 2010 were Delaware, (62 per 1,000
women aged 1544), Hawaii, New York (61 each) and Maryland (60).
5. Rates of unintended pregnancy are generally highest in the South and Southwest, and in
densely-populated states
6. By age 45, more than half of all American women will have experienced an unintended
pregnancy, and three in 10 will have had an abortion

Your thoughts?
1. Garbage is a huge health problem that seems impossible to stop, however with these new
solutions such as creating buildings or schools out of garbage is a genius way to reuse old
materials and create something positive and something that will affect the world greatly. It also
creates the power of a community for all of us to stop this major health pollution that hurts our
land, ocean, and animals. It is a start of an empowering revolution to a worldwide change among
all of us in the world.

Section D:
Go to: http://www.cdc.gov/std/gonorrhea/ and look and view the fact sheet.
Then go to http://www.cdc.gov/std/gonorrhea/arg/default.htm .
What did you learn about Antibiotic resistance gonorrhea?
1. Gonorrhea can be treated with medicine but an untreated one can be fatal to men and women.
It is progressively developing a resistance to Antibiotics. We only have a few antibiotic options
left and must observe the virus as well as the antibiotics to see what we can change and hopefully
find a better cure. At this rate, if this continues to happen, it can eventually be incurable which is
something that we cannot have.
What can untreated gonorrhea lead to? Look at other links on the website to answer this
question if you need to.

1. Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious and permanent health problems in both women and
men. For women it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease and for men, gonorrhea can cause a
painful condition in the tubes attached to the testicles. In rare cases, this may cause a man to be
sterile, or prevent him from being able to father a child.
