Dear Teacher Selection Committee:
I am contacting you regarding the open History Teacher position at South Mountain High
School. My educational background in Secondary Education/History, along with my ability to
build positive relationships with students and peers, implement a variety of teaching experiences
and recent coursework in curriculum and instruction strategies, integration and writing across
curricula will enable me to be a great asset to the Phoenix Union High School District.
As you will see from the enclosed resume, I have more than ten years of experience in the field
of working with students. I have recently graduated from Arizona State University and Mary Lou
Fulton Teachers College. During my time at Arizona State University in the iTeachAZ program, I
learned and applied a broad range of teaching strategies. For example, I constructed my lesson
plans by first consulting the Common Core Standards for clear objectives and learning goals.
Every students experience was enriched by differentiating lessons for learning styles, IEPs,
504s, gifted/talented abilities, as well as cultural and socio-economic needs.
I truly believe that we are all lifelong learners and would love the opportunity to share this belief
with the students of the Phoenix Union High School District. I hope to soon discuss with you
how my experience and abilities can best meet the goals of your district. If you have questions,
or if you want to schedule an interview, please contact me at 602-803-5457. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely,

Anna Rojas

Dear Parents,
My name is Anna Rojas and I will be your students U.S History teacher for
this semester. This is my first year in the Phoenix Union High School District
as a teacher and my tenth as an employee. I graduated from Arizona State
University in 2016 with my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education/
History and became a certified teacher in 2015. I am native of Phoenix,
Arizona and have lived here with my husband and three children all my life.
This semester will be exciting as we will be learning how America became a
nation all the way to the election of President Barack Obama. This is a fast
moving class as we have a lot to cover in a school years time. If for any
reason you feel overwhelmed, please feel free to talk with me. I have an
open door policy and you may speak with me whenever I am available. I am
not only your teacher, but also an adult mentor always open to help.
Over the past few years, I have become very aware of the impact teachers
have on the lives of their students. As students enter school, they are turned
over to the care of the teacher for nearly seven hours a day. I have always
been a huge supporter of frequent home-school communication. It is my
hope that this will be the basis for a great deal of dialogue and
communication between us. Please free to contact me via email or phone
call any time you need to reach me. If you call me, I will respond within 24
hours and if you email me Monday Friday during business hours I will also
respond with 24 hours. I do not check my emails during the weekend, but I
will respond as soon as I possibly can.
I look forward to a wonderful semester with your student.
Sincerely,

Mrs. Rojas

Dear Parent/Guardian:
I am writing to inform you that John is having some problem in my class and I
would greatly appreciate your cooperation in working with me to resolve
these issues.
In order to keep the class productive and calm, it is essential that each child
in my classroom avoid certain behaviors. Ive marked the problem areas for
your child below. John must improve in these areas to develop his/her full
potential.
[ ] Excessive talking
[X ] Lack of effort
[ ] Lack of attention
[ ] Disrespectfulness to others
[ ] Incomplete or late assignments
[ X] missing assignments
[ ] Poor test scores
Comments: John is typically a really hard working student and gives his all
while in my 4th hour U.S History class. Unfortunately, I am beginning to get a
bit concerned by his lack of effort in class, his work, and to date his 6 missing
assignments. As per the syllabus I will accept all assignments for 50% of the
value up until the one week before quarter is finished which is no later than
10/02/2015. If he turns in all 6 assignments he is missing, he has an
opportunity to raise his grade by at least one letter grade. His current grade
is 68% (D+). Overall, I have never had any problems with John in my class.
He is a very bright student, and is very helpful to others and myself. I really
enjoy having him as a student in my class.
I would like to discuss these problems with you as soon as possible so that
we can help John resolve these issues and become more productive in class.
Please call me @ 602-764-7015. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Mrs. Rojas
